What's the deal with Geico? (aka NJ insurance is screwed up)

This amused me so I figured I'd share:

I'm 21, no riding experience, good credit, couple non-speeding points on my license, haven't taken the MSF course yet, and I'm from NEW JERSEY  :thumb:

Anyway, I have Geico for my car, they give me a good deal, so I called them up first when looking for insurance for my '05 GS500F.  They quoted me $2,200 for a year; all the goodies and a $500 deductible.  shaZam!, this is gonna cost me more a month then the bike itself.  I needed insurance to finish up the paperwork at the dealer so I took it.

Then next day I call up NJ Rider Insurance and got a quote from them.  Full coverage, $350 deductible, only $370 a year! WTF?  I tell the guy about Geico, and he gives me another 10% off for switching companies (obviously I switched without giving it a second thought).

Gee Geico is only 667% more expensive!  :flipoff:

The moral of the story, shop around, especially if you're a Jersey boy looking for insurance.

Geico has to pay for all those TV commercials that tell you how inexpensive they are.

That little Gecko must have a cocaine problem that you are paying for.

I personally have Progressive on all my bikes.

18 years old, msf, nothing on the dmv and they wanted $1800.
Like gsmetal said, they got to pay for all for tv ads.
The name is a little misleading, I'm not 49 anymore and come to think out it I'm not all that speedy.

I've had my car with Geico for about 7 or 8 years, and when I started with them, they offered a very good deal, but now they're priced similarly to everyone else. They were one of the worst when it came to moto insurance...no discount for having my car with them or for a perfect driving record.

State Farm charges me about 1/3 of what Geico quoted. Getting several quotes is the way to go!  :thumb:

I get blamed for EVERYTHING around here!

Yeah Geico quoted me around $1,400/yr. and progressive quoted me $131/yr.

The best thing we can do as consumers is to continue to get the word out that Geico insurance company are a bunch of fricking lizards lovers that want to rip you off!
Apologies to all lizard owners ;)

$131/yr?!?!  Full coverage I assume, but how old are you? Any problems on your driving record?

State Farm is charging me roughly $696/yr for full coverage and a $500 deductable. I'm 23, haven't had a ticket in about 5 years, 6 years the last accident..

Although, there's this movie and packet and questionaire and stuff I'm suppose to fill out and return for an additional 25% off... So, it'd be like $522/yr once I complete this thing. But still. $131/yr?!?!?!

I have had my car insured through Geico for a few years before I got my bike. They gave me a really good deal, very reasonable and I am happy with them for my car.

I figured I'd put my car and bike with them. But they wouldn't even ACCEPT me. I was like um, ok, I have you for my car insurance... They said I was a risk. Granted, I ddi this online - I didn't actually call them and talk to anyone. That might or might not make a difference. I have one accident (minor $600 parking lot accident), was 24 when I got the quote, good credit, and no speeding/traffic tickets. I said F'em. I use Progressive, about $600 a year with $500 deductibles and roadside assistance.

Geico is good for cars but crap for motorcycle insurance.

That quote was for liability.  I upped my injury protection so I actually pay closer to $200/yr.  It's all about a.) where you live (I live in Kansas), b.) your credit score and c.) your driving record.

I've never even been pulled over, let alone gotten a ticket.  I am also 23 years old.
