RV,
You must avoid the temptations of the squid, satan. If not, you will spend an eternity riding a ruby red Goldwing with a ba-zillion lights,.........pulling a (gasp) TRAILER! :o

So pull on your helmet, zip up your armor, cinch your boots and don your gloves and sin no more. Remember, it's not how fast you go, but HOW you go fast! :thumb:

Budget,
R U sure that was a "wheelie" you saw the 'wing do? It might have just lifted its front wheel 'cause of the bags, trunk, radio transmitter, microwave oven and the ba-zillion lights on the back end. :icon_lol:

this topic reminded me of a Carlin's quote : "Out on the road every one who drives faster then you is a maniac, and every one who drives slower is f_cken idiot"....The "squid" is a perception of a person who takes unneeded/unnecessary risks, and what you consider unnecessery is up to each person......ask an average driver and he'll tell you that you might as well be doing wheelies going 100 on a residential street, 'cause you as good as dead riding a motorcycle.

I think there is a very specific type rider that is a squid.  It has nothing to do with wheelies.  First of all, you have to look at how (a real) squid swims in water.  They fill their bodies up with water and squirt it out, shooting them through the water backwards in a straight line.
That is how a squid rides, too.  Fast in a straight line, slows down for curves.
Maybe I'm the only one that sees it that simply.

That goes back to that last thread where someone said the origin of Squid came from squirrelly kid.

oh well.  I brought this up because some people seem to think you can judge a person a squid based on the way they look.
SPORTBIKERS in particular.

Thats just plain stupid and prejudicial to me. same as calling Latinos theives, Blacks lazy, whites racists, asians smart, and Islanders Dumb.

How many Harley cruisers do it for the look? how many cruiser buy 1100cc bikes and never go above 60mph? or don't wear the proper gear?

You can't judge a book by its cover.  A Squid is not a look. or an Attitude.  A SQUID is a foolish rider.  we have all done Squidish things. Anyone who denies it is lying to themselves.

In fact its such a nice day I think I'll run to BK for lunch.  IN JUST MY T-SHIRT!!!!

Most cruisers have bigger engines because they rev low, they are made to actually haul 2 people, and they are heavy!

yeah I realized it didn't help my point after I posted it but oh well.

the reason I mentioned it is because I ride with a guy on a 1100 honda shadow.  the way he rides he'd a been just as happy on a 250 rebel.

Plus I have nothing else to do but post and post and post.  I at work! ha

OK... There's clearly some confusion here...  Three categories of rider are being mashed....

    1) Squid
    2) Newb  (or Noob)
    3) Poseur (or Poser)

- Newb:  Someone new...  Short for Newbie.  They tend to make silly mistakes from lack of experience.  They may eventually become a great rider.

- Poseur:  Someone that rides because they look cool...  They spend more time standing around their bike "posing" and talking about riding than they do actually riding the bike...  They tend to have every visible mod you can get ('cause it looks even cooler that way)...  They tend to match their Helmet, Racing Suit (with pucks that have been hand scraped in the driveway), and Gloves with the paint scheme of their bike.  These sort of people exist in many sports (Surfing, Snowboarding, Skateboarding, etc.)

- Squid:  .....  This one seems to be up for debate...

I think a Squid is someone that:
    1.  Thinks they are WAY better than they are.
    2.  Intentionally risks their own life and the lives of those around them because it's "More fun" or because it looks cool.
    3.  Stunts on public roads, in traffic, and around pedestrians...
    4.  Goes as fast as possible at all times... (But, like JakeD said, usually "Fast in a straight line, slows down for curves.")
    5.  Doesn't wear appropriate gear (because they think they'll never crash)...

I call myself a Squid 'cause I'm 1, 4, and sometimes 5.
