Wife got her motorcycle license.  .she was going to get a cruiser but decided she liked the GS instead.  She wants to get me the speed triple I have about 1year exp riding.  Think it might be to much to handle?

The Speed Triple has roughly three times the amount of RWHP that the GS does, and somewhere in the vicinity of 2.5 times the torque. How many miles have you logged? How mature do you think you are? How smooth with the throttle are you?

I agree with Alpha.  That bike is way more powerful than our little GSs.  If you have a cool head on your shoulders and can resist the "drive it like its stolen" urge untill you get the hang of the way the bike handles and accelerates then you should be alright.  With the amount of power that you would have at hand with the speed tripple if you were put into a situation that you would handle by opening the throttle all the way on the GS and you reacted the same way on the tripple at best your pulling a wheelie, at worse your wife may be a widow.  Simply put, respect the power and you should be alright.

Yeah...  The Tripple is a lot of bike...

I know that I'm not mature enough for one...  :nono:  If you REALLY think you are, then go for it. :thumb:

If you think you can handle the power, then definitely. It's a great bike!

I think that would be a fine upgrade from a GS.

I spent 3 years on the GS, am on a Speed Four now and I'm not riding this bike at anywhere near it's potential.  It's going to come down to your level of responsibility as people have mentioned.  The Trips have massive amounts of power, you can't comprehend if you have only ridden a GS, but it's very very easy to get into loads of trouble quickly on a bike that size.  If you were going to upgrade to the Speed Triple, I'd look for a nicely used 01-04 and save some cash.  Granted the '05 has more pony juice, but you won't be able to take advantage of that for another couple seasons of riding, at least not safely.

Thanks for the reply's.  I don't speed my last speeding ticket was in 99 or 00.  I'm not into stunting.  . I like watch it but not into doing it.  I might not have to get another bike after all ( thats what I'm hopeing for ) Boss500 is going to Mexico soon and I'll be taking care of his bike so I could ride his and my wife could ride hers.  As crazy as it sounds I'd rather not get another bike right now, but it would be nice riding with my wife.

I agree so far with what I read.  A liter bike can get you into trouble FAST -trust me, I know.

Why not look at those 600's Truimph makes -speed 4 I think they're called.  I hear the used price on them is low, and they make about 100hp.  It will still be a big step up, but more manageable.

That's what I'm riding now and I love it.  Very light, just like the GS, but gets up and goes when I push her.  They're rare too so I get a lot of compliments!

One more vote for the 675...it's one bad ass looking bike. I saw one on the track last weekend. Very nice :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Thanks for the input everybody, looks like I wont have to get another bike after I'll.  I'll be able to ride Boss500's GS while he's in Mexico.
