Both Bikes Vandalised !

Aaaaaaargh! I went outside my house at 0450 this morning (Despite "retiring" on Jan first) to get my milk in and check the bikes before starting work at 0530.

Both my bikes have been pushed over, damage not too bad a few scratches and scuffs, both on the left side and mercifully the clutch levers survived, rear turn signal broken on the '81 Yamaha. I got the Yammy up OK but had to beg assistance from a passer by with the GS which was laying with the slight slope working against me. Whoever did it must have been very determined as the GS was chained to a groundbolt and the Yammy to a chaining point on a low concrete-block wall, the wall was also over and the weight of the bike alone would not do that.

That's life I suppose, similar thing happened to me last October so it looks like a good time to install the c.c.t.v. camera sitting in my workshop. Nothing I can do  except grin and bear it but I just had to tell someone, hopefully one day I might get near enough to administer the claw-hammer solution. (I don't mind doing time if someone feeds my cat!)

At 60 years of age and five in the morning there are other things i would rather be doing.

Perhaps you should get a sizeable canine companion to stand watch over your bikes.  To me, that seems like an even better deterrent than CCTV.

If you did go this route, you'd still be around to feed your cat...

This is just sickening; so sorry this happened to you, Cal...

Do you have a videocamera? You can use it to get everything on tape... You can also set up some motion-activated lighting; if the lights go on before anyone can get close enough to do any damage, you might be able to discourage the vandals from even entering your property...

Of course, if you happen to own a grouse gun, you can make some custom reloads with rocksalt, and discourage them with both barrels... a paintball gun would work, too, and fluorescent pink or orange paint would make it easier for your local police to spot the culprits on the street...

Anyway, I hope you have a bottle of The Famous Grouse handy to help ease your pain this weekend... I'll hoist a glass in your direction at midnight my time.

If you catch anyone in the act, feel free to throw them off those famous White Cliffs...

This is the second time!  Stake out a Friday night to see what kind of surly blokes are out and about at that time.  How can you get the local constablery involved?  Have you installed the cctv, yet?

I once 'thought' i heard someone going down my street and smashing car windows, and the first thing I did was load up my paintball gun and open my window. This was at 3:00 AM, unfortunately for me and my sleep schedule, it was just the newspaper delivery van tossing papers onto lawns. It totally sounded like shattering glass! I swear! But its funny that I would protect my vehicles with a paintball gun.

I have a weatherproof cctv camera that will go up on Sunday morning, I think this occurs when the local clubs chuck out at 0300 hrs. I have reported it to Old Bill who will check the output from a street camera about 30m away from my house, unfortunatly on the previous occasion it was facing the wrong way but who knows this time. I have several days without early starts so maybe I will lurk with intent.......or maybe a famous grouse, it so happens there is a litre or two in my cupboard.

Oh man, that bites.  Vandals.

Suspect there's no way for you to keep the bikes away from prying hands.  It was first in the Brit bike mags where I saw such adverts such as for the Bike Vault, the Kryptonite chains connected to hardened steel hoops pounded into concrete, brake locks with motion detectors screaming a 95dB siren when activated, and all that lot.  Sorry to hear it's necessary in the smaller centres as well.

I don't begrudge your strategy at all -- just remember to sip the Famous Grouse -- I'm a Baileys kinda guy me self.

Cal..........I am truly sorry to hear yet again about your bikes being vandalized.
Go to the nearest hardware store and acquire you an axe handle. You should be able to handle at LEAST 2-3 street urchins easily.
First break an arm then a leg (side of the kneecap). Then let the party begin. Beat whatever makes you feel good. They must associate extreme pain with their act. This will give them a "reference point" from then on.
Be sure to wear your black ski-mask and leather gloves. We don't want any recognition or prints.

I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune Cal. People dont seem to think of motorcycles as any other type of transportation, like most of us see them as. They are held as things of wild times and reckless abandonment and seem to attract idiots of that nature. Be sure to put up a sign informing potential vandals they have already been indeed caught on video if you can. Good luck!
