Oil change parts question.

I went through and read the oil change directions  which are found here  http://gstwin.com/oil_change.htm
A few questions I have since I've never changed the oil filter on my bike.

1. In one of the directions it says "Suzuki suggest to replace the o-ring at every oil change."

Is this necessary to replace everytime?  Does this o-ring come with the stock oil filter?  If not, how do I ask for the right one when I'm at the dealers buying the oil filter?

2. "You should also replace the crusher washer on the drain plug. I dind't have one, so I left in the old one. Besides it's really hard to take it off."

Same question, should it be replaced everytime I do an oil change?  if so what do they usually call them, so I can get the right one at the dealers?

Thanks in advance.

I never replaced my o-ring seal as I asked the dealer for one and they said they had to order it. I thought, bugger waiting for that.

I just reused the o-ring. Ensure it is clean of debris, then dip your finger in the new oil and smear a thin coating across the entire rubber. This helps to form a better seal and helps prevent leaks.

I never replaced the cruch washer either.

I had no leaks.

If you want to get the Oring or crush washer, ask for a "Oil Filter O-ring and Oil Filter Drain Plug crush washer for a GS500 year  _ _ _ _ "

I'd buy a couple if you can to save you having to ask for them again in the future. Get a couple of oil filters while your there too.

And remember, don't over tighten the filter bolts!!! They snap real easy. Hand tight then a quarter turn with a socket rench. Fill with oil, run the bike, if it leaks turn a quarter more, re-check, repeat till leak stops.

Most aftermarket filters come with the o-ring, but not the stock filter.

Thanks again for the replies.  Gonna go and buy a few at the dealers tomorrow.
