is this true??  assuming there is no gravel on the road can you really lean that far on stock tires?

Yes it is true, the pucker factor is high the first time you touch down on a hard part. The bad part about riding on the street and cornering that fast is what you don't see. Oil slicks, gravel, dead carcass, they can all have a huge impact on your handleing :o
