Okey dokey I recently completed a valve adjustment on my bike. So i felt i was getting the hang of working on it so i went ahead and did the 5 degree timing  advance which gave me a noticeable boost in power (if i lean back hard i can get the front tire off the ground now!). So now I went ahead and ordered the RU-2970 K&N Filter (the kind that replaces the airbox), The Dyno jet stage III jet kit, and the full Vance and hines Exhaust kit the whole shabang ran me about $390 (i work at a bike shop so i get everything at cost +15%...be jealous  :flipoff: ) Anyway, my question is, what else can i do to get allitle more power?

A 15T front sprocket will make the bike feel completely different. It's a cheap but worthwhile upgrade. Should run you about $15 or so.

Aside from that, you can go with oversized pistons/rings and bore the engine (up to 79mm pistons with the stock sleeves), you can get a GSX-R 4-valve head put on with some work.

What do you have in terms of suspension?

Hmmm...$250 V&H exhaust + $40 K&N Pods...does that jet kit really run $100?

You could slap on a 15t front sprocket...?

EDIT:  Damn you Alpha...you're too fast and beat me to it!

^ lol i know tax sucks but it still comes out cheaper than if i were to have ordered it online... anyway that 15t front sprocket will give me more torque at the rear right? Sounds like a good mod, where can i get my hands on one?

cell_491

oh and my suspension is still stock

Turd Ferguson

The factory sprocket on your bike is a 16t.  You'll basically be raising the engine revs in relation to your ground speed.  This means that the engine is in its powerband a bit quicker off the line.  No added power.

That should be one of the first things you upgrade. The GS had more than enough power to overcome its suspension. More power is only going to show how crappy it is. Go upgrade the suspension first, then make it go faster.

Upgrade the rear shock and front springs. Katana rear shocks are a direct bolt in, and old GSX-R shocks can be made to fit with some work. Front springs you can go with Progressive springs or RaceTech springs. Progressive springs have a progressive rate to them and RaceTech have straight rate. Progressive springs cost about $130, while Progressives will run about $60.

Like I said man, suspension is far more valuable than speed. What good is increased power if the suspension can't handle it? The GSes suspension is crap-tastic anyways, so quality suspension components is much more worthwile than power boosts.

But if you insist on ignoring my adive, you can get 15T front sprockets through Sprocket Specialists.

ok i went ahead and ordered that sprocket...im gonna look into the racetech fron springs tomorrow at work...i got a few more questions for you though. What is the ideal spring rate for the front suspension (on the race tech), What year Katana rear suspension fits a 1999 GS500e and what would be more important if i cant get it all done now (i may not be able to find a rear suspension from a katana), the rear or front suspension.
