well after letting her warm up the other day I was getting on to take off and heard a slight 'ping'
didnt think anything of it but noticed I had a backfire or two on a real short ride and wasnt running as well
as previous time I rode, when I got home I found this sitting on the ground where the bike had been parked
while warming up.

Anyone care to tell me where this came from and what it is?

The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

You are SO lucky you heard that and found it!!! I lost mine a little while back and it cost roughly $20 to get the whole thing replaced. Seriously. So lucky.

funny, clymers makes no mention of it.  after full dissasembly, not including the air/mix screw clymers says, no further dissasembly required.

hmmmm.. why is that?

is this preset at factory and not meant to be disturbed?
anyone have a write up on how to adjust this? (I am search handicapped at the moment)

It's the air/fuel mix screw. You have to drill through brass plugs, then adjust them in our out with a flathead screwdriver. Out means richer, in means leaner.

Very much so. Be careful and only have it AT MAX 3.5 turns out. More out, and you run the risk of having it vibrate out on you again.

Should you Locktite these kind of screws in?  Or just wrench it and hope it stays?

It will stay in if you don't unscrew it too much. Like I said, 3.5 turns out maximum.
