well, last week i sold my 1989 GS500 and picked up a 1991 Honda Hawk 650. I finally took it out to play a little tonight. Just down to the church parking lot to practice a bit since i'm a noob. I have to say, compared to the GS this thing feels SUPER torquey. The GS was way easier to drive smoothly, this thing is just torque all over the place. I definately have to focus may more when riding around on this than on the GS. The second you stop thinking and give it just a little too much this thing will lurch/jump and just effing GO.

I know the 650 is no liter-twin wheelie machine but I was just surprised how pronouced the torque difference felt. It might not be a huge amount numerically (i haven't be able to find specs on the 650 hawk to compare yet) but with the full super trap exhaust, stage 3 jetting, and k&n pods it certainly felt like it.

All in all it was a good time, my roommate and I were trading back and forth with my hawk and his 50cc honda metropolitian. I looked hardcore in all my gear on the scooter. :thumb:

Congrats, dude.

You'll get used to the power of that bike in no time.  How does it handle?

Do you have any more pics?

well, it handles good at like 0-30-ish making slow deliberate turns in a parking lot so far.  :dunno_white:

I'm still trying to get comfortable on it. I took the MSF, and felt pretty good after that but then i went like 3-4 months with basically zero riding.

here are some more pics from the prevous owner (i don't have a decent dig cam available to me right now)

That's hot.

I went a year and a half after MSF course before I got to put some serious miles on a bike (uh, this summer, 3500+ so far).  You are still capable, don't worry.

Get out there and mix it up in your neighborhood.  You're ready.

Don't listen to Aaron.  He is just pissed that his bike is baby blue and white and nicknamed Ghey Monday.  That gold is hot, you got there.  You should re-cover that seat, however.

The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

Thanks for all the kind words everyone.

I really like the color combo of the bike, it's original and actually works really well.

I'm really happy with my purchase. I think for only $2000 i got a really nice bike i can be happy with for a while.
