Okay, just to clarify as I already posted on the East Coast thread, I currently have the EAST COAST kit, which seems to be the only one left. I am trying to get a replacement feeler gauge set for it.

I have a valve cover gasket and shim source lined up in case I need a gasket and a set of shims that are NOT in the kit. I'm aiming for this Sunday, but since I've told everyone that... hope nothing hits the fan.

West Coasters are asked to contribute $5. toward a new West Coast kit.

According to the list, it looks like gmark will be next in line. Right now the kit is in SoCal.

Wish me luck!  ;)

any way i can get on this list?

whats the symptoms of needing a valve adjust?

i have a ticking in the head that comes and goes at idle, any rpm, and under load at any rpm

it will tick for anywhere from 5-30 seconds then stop for anywhere between 20seconds - 2 minuets

sorry its a little confusing so like the east coast one is the only one which means theres west coast list ontop of the east coast list of people needing it?

I just posted this reply to the other thread:

You are after gmark. I'll post here and on the other thread when I'm done. Yes, it's the East coast kit that we on the West coast are borrowing, we are also donating $5 or whatever you can add cash wise to the kit to raise the funds to replace the West Coast kit. More is always better.   8)
The kit will be mailed to you, you then pay to ship it to the next person. Priority mail is best; it's quickest and safest.

I have replaced the worn feeler gauges and will likely throw in the little pocket magnet I got as well, the tweezers make me nervous.

In the meantime you can check out Kerry's awesome step by step video, a copy of which is included in the kit.

I'm not a mechanic, but I used to do minor service on my cars. I know that car valves "tick" and I know what that sounds like, but someone here can answer that question better if you post it in the main forum.

My 2001 GS has a tick too, but it seems to be related to the cam tensioner(?) and I hear it up front. Comes and goes but usually mostly after it's hot and has been running in the canyons for an hour or so, and I mostly hear it when going downhill!   :dunno_white:
Maybe because of engine braking deceleration.

The East coast kit will be heading back east shortly, and has been upgraded. A collection is being taken for a new West Coast kit. This is a really cool deal, please contribute.  8)

Hi Teek,

I haven't seen instructions anywhere on how to contribute? Did I miss this info? Are people using the kit mailing cash around? Or is someone taking a collection through PayPal?  :dunno_white:

nikux included a Ziploc with $5. and it was his idea, and I think it's super, it's currently a suggested donation for whoever is using this East coast kit to help resurrect a West coast kit. I think an additional collection through PayPal for a West coast kit would be great, I'd kick in another $5. towards it too. Every $5. buys another shim. I just didn't want to post it without talking to the people who would have to get the parts together.  Hopefully they are reading this thread... ;)  It would probably be pretty helpful, if we think that we all need to do this every so often, and having to keep shipping it across the country makes people wait longer. For the price of shipping there's a good chance people can swap out some shims from the kit with luck, and the bucket tool is like $45.? Plus with the micrometer and the DVD and the other tools, I know I'd rather put the money into the bike than into tools for it, I don't know how long I'll have a GS. I saw a red Ducati Monster 750 in the shop today when I took the shim set back. Then turned around and there was a black one behind me... I got prices and mileage.

Yeah, I really support the idea of Paypal too, :thumb:, that way people who have already used the kit and benefited from it can also donate whatever amount they want to. Anyone needing the kit on the west coast ready to take on the lead with this? I hope people will be happy to contribute for a good cause.

Any experienced guy has an idea how much it takes to build one complete kit?

gmark is too busy right now, so suzukimx4789 is next on the list.

gmark may be next after him.

The kit will be on it's way as soon as I hear back from suzukimx4789.

Don't let my defective gasket issue worry anyone, what I learned was if it seems it's really too big, it probably is. The second one went on much better.  I haven't ridden the bike yet, the carbs are off for a rejet, but it looks like it will be okay. I don't have that nagging suspicion in the back of my head!    ;)

It looks like lewismug was accidentally skipped?

So what I see on the 2 lists is

Hey Everyone! Long time no post but I have great news.

Not sure how many of you guys know, but I've been going back and forth with USPS regarding somehow losing the kit. The first time, it got bounced back to me for no apparent reason, so I went back, dropped it off, AND got a receipt. A month later, I get an email asking if I still have the kit, so I go to the USPS office here and they said they'll track it down. I got no response from anyone, so I figured the next guy on the list got the kit. Fast forward a couple months, and I get another email about the kit, so I check-in with USPS again, and somehow the package is still in their system, but they don't know where.

I've been bugging USPS about this every other week, and lo and behold, the package arrived at my doorstep (well actually my apartment mailbox) this afternoon, all beat up and raggedy (no joke, the box looks like somebody played football with it, then use it to cook some chili on, and finally shitted all the chili back onto it).

In any case, Yun (not sure what his name on the forums is) will be coming to pick it up soon, and will send it off to whoever's next on the list after he's through with it.

Sorry about all the headaches the missing valve kit has cost you guys. Ride safe!

Hi Guys,

I'll be going to pick it up from pingpong later today. Who's next on the list? I'll be able to send it out first thing Thursday.

Thanks!

Wow thats good news... One kit lost, one lost kit resurfaces :)

Ok guys, we now need a donation before the kit is shipped to anyone.  Kyle has donated $20.00 to the pot and I have a poll going on right now to see what the expected donation amount should be.  I will leave the poll open for one week.  This has been started simply as an effort to keep the kit moving and as a way to be able to replace the kit if it is ever lost again.  A lot of money goes in to creating one of these kits and some have contributed quite a bit more than others.  The donation requirement will ensure that everyone who uses the kit makes an equal contribution.  This will apply to both the West Coast, and East Coast kits (if the East Coast kit ever comes out of hiding again)

A PayPal account has been set up and already has a balance of $20.00.  This will be the official method to donate if you want the kit to be shipped to you.

The PayPal account is:  gstwin@bellsouth.net

The balance will be updated each time a donation is made and a list of people who have donated will also be kept here:  http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=41347.msg465166#msg465166

Simply paying shipping to the next name on the list has worked well for almost 4 years for the kits. The only glitch has been this USPS goof. It's a community kit, and my two cents is that one shouldn't be *required* to donate to get the kit.   :dunno_white:

Pandy, this is the reason we have been having this conversation for the last few weeks.

We have been asking for input from all of the members of this forum and only a handful has let us know their opinions.  Either way, donating or not donating is fine with me.  We just need to get as many people as possible to see what everyone thinks.  I think the idea of making a donation in order to get the kit was thrown around when the East Coast kit was held in limbo, and still is, by a member.  The reason the kit is still held up is because the guy who has it was busted shooting houses (I think) with paintballs.  Oh, and the police checked the vin on his GS and it came back as being stolen, so it was impounded by the police.  We figured that the best way to keep the kit circulating, and to have funds available for a new kit, was the donations.  I think a moderator should post a stickie, or even just a normal thread and take a vote.  Either there should be a donation to get the kit, or a deposit (which you will get back) for the kit, or it stays as it has for so long.  Like I said, either way is fine with me.  I don't want to be viewed as the new guy who tries to run things, so I will hush up on this subject and stop being proactive.  I'll let you guys who have been here longer decide what happens.  Kyle, let me know what to do with the $$ you have already donated.  I can either send it back to you, or send it to the official GSTwin donation link.

Damn, and I thought my USPS snaffu with the west coast kit was bad. The situation with the east coast kit is just WTF! I should probably lurk around the boards more often...but man, now I feel really bad not checking in with USPS more often seeing as how the east coast kit was also MIA.

Just out of curiosity, what do you guys ship it via? I had it shipped to me with USPS, and since I live a block away from the post office, I figured USPS was the best move. I guess on the bright side, I did eventually get the kit back...last time I used Fedex to ship a flyscreen to another member, but Fedex lost it and never did reimburse me for the price of the flyscreen .

On a happier note, the rise in gas prices will be forcing me to drive my 10MPG (*tear*) RX-7 less and get a bike again...maybe an SV650?

510

Aite, I'm done with it. Gotta say that the west coast kit actually has a few more parts in it than the east coast one. The magnet on a stick was really helpful :)

Anyway, let me know who I should ship it off to next. I guess East coast is included since theirs still hasn't appeared yet.

I think Tang, then me, then astroaru would be the que on the East coast side.  I don't want us to break in line though.

510

Alright, I'll PM Tang. I guess it's fair since there's no line for the west coast kit and the east coast ppl are without a kit.

Thanks!
