Anyone else ride without a chain guard?

I took most of my bike apart and it's all back together again. Save for the chain gaurd. It.....just...looks so ugly. I like it better off. I suppose as long as I clean the chain more often it doesn't really have more of a purpose than protecting it from dirt. Am I wrong? Anyone else ride with it off?

I ride without it, but I assumed it was more to keep your clothes on you instead of tightly wrapped around your sprocket. Prolly keeps the dirt and grease flinging to a minimum as well.
