I'm only going to say this once and I don't mean any offense.  Twelve thousand could buy you one hell of a nice used car.  You could easily get into a late model Accord, Camry or Maxima for that price.  You could have comfort, power, quality materials and construction. Why would you want to pay new stock dealer prices on a tiny little econobox like this? So you can be the first on your block to cruise around in the absolute cheapest, bottom-of-the-barrel new car available?  I just don't get it.

edit - I came off sounding a little hostile, that wasn't my intention.  Just food for though.  New cars depreciate faster than any other asset so at least keep the secondhand market in mind.

Well I'm glad you're saying that just once then. What I don't get is calling the Yaris or Fit "bottom of the barrel". Just because they don't cost much doesn't mean they're crap or even bad looking. Why buy a used vehicle where you may or may not know what is wrong with it when you can buy a brand spankin' new vehicle that's going to have a great warranty and will get better gas mileage than anything else you can buy out there for $12k?

you could get a new civic dx for around $14500. that is assuming that they don't mark it up. if they do, you might want to try a different dealer.

A couple other interesting thoughts:

In canada, we've had the Yaris for 2 years, and we have 3 different versions.

BTW:  the Carolla actually gets better mileage then teh Yaris on the highway.  Which is strange, casue it's got a 1.8L engine instead of the Yaris's 1.5 and probably ways about 500lbs more.  That 1.8 engine is pretty kick ass though.

I do also think that Toyota bends you over a little.  Sure you can get 4 wheels and a seat for about $14K cdn, but if you want air, add $1500, want nice decals etc?  you're up to almost $19K BEFORE TAXES in a hurry.  that's about the same price as a carolla with AIR.

Meh, I have 30 months left to pay my B3000 anyways and I don't I could go back to not having a truck.

We got a Fit in and just got done driving riding it around. They brought in a fully loaded one at about $15k.

There's no doubt I would take this thing before everything else. The Fit is go, subc. Go get one! I'm so tempted to pick one up myself too. :thumb:

subc,
Get the Fit! Long after you've forgotten that perhaps you paid a bit more for the Honda, the quality, durability and fun-to-drive factor will still remain and enhance your ownership experience! ;)
It's not how fast you go, rather "how" you go fast!

My GF has an aveo. It's not too bad of a car.

It actually isn't made by suzuki, it's made by daewoo, and sold as the Kalo overseas (I was rather pissed that she bought a daewoo...but oh well).

It came with pretty good kuhmo tires that grip pretty darn well. It has a sloppy throttle, and really long throws on the shifter, but other than that it's a pretty good little econo-box (except that it only gets like 25 mpg in the city)....

I support everyone saying to get the fit or the yaris, both seem like really badass little hatches. If I had a reason to buy a car, I would probably get one of those two.

Subc,
B4 you do anything, drive a Honda "Fit"! I had a chance to drive the first one that wasn't pre-sold. I was amazed how well it handled and  had all the fit & finish qualities that you'd expect from a Honda costing $10k more. :thumb: I delivered the first one last Thursday for $14400 + tax. There's a lot of space utilization in that small package. Make sure you look at one before you pull the trigger!
Overall, i think the fit is a great car. Not exactly ugly either. I just dont know how i feel about riding around on top of the gas tank. I would have to see some crash test results....
