Primary means of transportation.

Hey,
Recently gas prices have been nearing 3 dollars a gallon across the US. I was wondering how many GS/4 wheeled owners have taken advantage of the low opperating costs and fuel efficency of the GS. To the point that now their GS is the primary means of transportation? Personally, I have been using my car very, very, very little. Perhaps 1 day a week? Even to the grocery I am now using it, taking a backpack and shopping w/ space in mind. I used my car once this week to take a large package to the post office. Anyone else?

$3 gallon / 3.7854118 gallons/L = 0.792516154/L

We haven't seen those prices for years! I think the last time i filled up for 79 cent was in 2002 -- consider yourself lucky

1.10L * 3.7854118 gallons/L = 4.16395298/gallon here!

Just as soon as I get my bike back I will be using it all the time except when I go get groceries but if I stole a cart I could prob just walk.

My bike is my primary mode of transportation as well. I haven't driven my car in at least a week. The only time I do drive it is if I need to carry a LOT of things (no saddle bags yet), take large packages to the post office, or when it's late at night and my girlfriend needs to be picked up from San Antonio and she's too tired to ride the bike and has too much stuff to take back.

The bike is just cheaper...

Except for mods.

My bike is also my primary means of transportation. My bicycle, that is. I do a commute of 20 km (roughly 13 miles) one way on the bike. Keeps me in good shape and saves money.

For longer distances it's the GS. If I have to take both kids it's public transportation or the occasional borrowed car.

1. bike whenever weather permits.

2. I can wring about 30 miles per gallon out of my little toyota pickup, so I can drive when I need to without breaking the bank.

3. It also helps living 6 miles form work and on the bus line.  It is still a little cheaper to drive than take the bus for me, but its beginning to get close.

I rode to work on the GS everyday last week, and I generally do throughout the riding months here in NY. But my Hyundai Accent is good on gas anyways; if I drive responsibly I can see a lil over 30mpg.  I don't have my own washing machine, so when I have to go to the laundromat I have to use the car, too. But yeah, during the riding months my bike gets a lot more miles than the car put on it.  :thumb:

we have two cars at home and my GS. I drive the 1990 Honda Civic Wagavan or whatever's it's called. My mechanic laughs every year because the number of miles I put on it are less and less. Last year it was just over 1300. the year before, just over 1500. The car is now 16 years old and only has 53000 miles on it. If i can keep it from rusting into oblivion, at this rate with HOnda reliability I should be able to drive it for another 73 years.  Plus I've been thinking about putting my stock pipes and rejetting the GS back to normal to boost my mpg's

that's another prob. when i was doing rejetting and piping and all that fun stuff I also dropped to a 15t front when i put on new chain and sprockets.  What's your opinion on jumping up to a 17 without putting on a new chain or rear sprocket?

My GS is my primary form of transportation. The only time I break out any of my cars is when it's raining or I have to move something that too heavy or big for my backpack.

i drove a VW Golf MKIII when i got married. Since then, we sold her Civic and bought my GS.  i ride it everyday, rain or shine. i like shine better, though.

OK, OK...so there's been a couple times it was raining so hard, i rode in with a co-worker.  :dunno_white:
