First impressions of my new GS500

Picked up a 2003 GS500 the other week and so far I am very impressed with the bike.
I traded in a Yamaha FZR250R against it.
I like the low down power of the GS500 and its a very easy and comfortable bike to ride.

The bike I got is like a new bike and has only 5000 KMs on it.

Unfortunetly last night I dislocated my finger playing football and it is in a splint for the next 2 weeks.
The bike goes back in the shed, bugger.

I agree the GS500 does have alot of nice low down grunt compared to the 250's.

mine leads the way against a CBR250RR until about 120km/h then the CBR starts mowing it down.

For the Aussie fans out their I compare the GS500 to the good'ol Aussie Holden 5.0 litre V8, lots of torque but runs out of puff as the revs climb.

We Americans call that sport "soccer". And we call those sub-600cc sportbikes "nonexistent". Lucky jerks. I wish we would get half the models that other countries have.

The GS actually starts making good power past 7k, and its max power around 8.5k to 9.5k rpm.

The low end power might be nice to a smaller engine'd bike, but I'm not impressed much with the GS500's low end.
