There are a few people that can talk on the phone and drive just fine...  Just so you know.

Come ride up in Seattle...  You can follow me around while I talk on my phone...   :icon_mrgreen:

Unless I start sending text messages while I'm driving... Then RUN!  :o

One time I was stuck at a crossing waiting for a train to pass and the phone rang. I did one of those things where you open the visor and put it on speaker phone and 'try' to talk like that. I bet other people were laughing at me.

I read about a cheap alternative to lojack where you buy a cheap pay as you go phone (would have to be GSM since they eat less power) and toss it in your repair kit. I guess you can somehow register to track your phone online so if the bike gets stolen you can give the information to the police and they can track it down. You just have to charge it once a week or so and its also handy to have in case of an accident. I did read about it here in London though, I don't know if its harder to track a phone in the US.

I'd love to talk on my phone while riding...  I could call my friends and say, "I'm riding...  And you're not...  HA HA Buddha Loves You!"  Then hang up.   :thumb:

You know, that isn't such a bad idea.  :icon_mrgreen:
Richard died in a motorcycle accident that was at no fault of his own.  We lost a good friend and good member of this board.  Though Rich may be gone, his legacy will live on here.

I havn't seen anyone talking while riding here in UK, but it doesnt suprise me, your not even allowed to use your phone in any vehicle or on it if the engine is running and your on a road (new rules).

However, the funniest thing ive seen was on a holiday in Eygpt. Went on a trip to Petra (sp?) where they filmed an Indian Jones film (the city built in the rockface) might have been Temple of Doom. But anyways down in the bottom of this like 100ft gorge a guy rode past us on a camel on his cell phone! I tried to catch it on camera but just got a blur. Was the most hillarious thing 1) he was on a camal on a cell phone and 2) you can get full signal down in the bottom of a 100ft gorge!  :icon_lol: :dunno_white:

So it was RV or Phae who cranked called the other day while I was in the cage sitting in traffic... I wondered who that was!  :o

Eh, it was a decent save.

But really, let us know if you kids get a trip up to WA going. And if you kids do, let Pandy know also.

Yeah, I called you old. Wink.

Exactly. I had to pull over Friday to make a phone call (went to a motorcycle shop, only to find out they'd moved years ago) and even when I was stopped, with the gloves off, it was a pain. I kept my helmet on and used speakerphone, and there were still a lot of "what?"s between me and the girl. It made me think about how riding and talking would be pretty impossible.

Alot of intercom systems have a special slot to fit your phone into.

Wudnt me!

MrDan

So I'm resurrecting this instead of starting a new thread.

I was riding the other night (actually sitting stopped in a 5 mile backup), when my wife calls me.  She never calls when I'm riding so I actually answered it and shoved it in the helmet (again not moving and I was half on the shoulder).  Turns out our neighbor had somehow driven halfway up the front stoop.  Missed my car by less than a foot and almost ended up in our 2nd bedroom.  Everything was ok, but I was worried since she'd normally text me so I could check it when I took a break.

Got me thinking.  That's the second time I've used my phone on my bike (1st time I was parked and getting directions - just didnt feel like taking my gear off).  If I can get this to work, I anticipate I'd actually use it once a year - maybe.

So anyone have any thoughts on a bluetooth setup that's cheap enough that I could take it apart and mount it in the helmet?

My other rationale is that I do alot of solo riding out in WV and western VA in parts that are rather unpopulated.  God forbid I go down one day on a stretch that has no traffic.  I've had plenty of rides where I saw no cars for hours.  It would be nice to be able to call for help without having to dig through a bag to get to my phone - especially if I couldn't get to the bike for some reason.

So yeah - I know 90% of the people here will tell me to just forget the entire idea, but it's something I'm interested in seeing how to do.  And I'd rather not get one of the chatterbox type setups that's external.  I'm more minimalist.

Flame away.
