Here's the situation...

I have DSL and three computers running WinXP:
1 desktop wired into the router
1st laptop wireless
2nd laptop wireless

All three computers are able to access the internet (WEP encryption & MAC address filters on both laptops).  The 1st laptop is able to access the shared files and printer.  The second is not able to do ANYTHING except internet usage.

I'm not that great with networking, so I'm probably missing something.  I've checked that the worlgroup name is EXACTLY the same (WGNGUYEN).  Other than that, I'm not sure.

PLEASE HELP!

Turn printer sharing on the 2nd laptop.

It will likely bark at you and tell you that hackers are going to steal your underwear or something, but just click the link in the dialogue box that says something like "Just turn on printer sharing".  :thumb:

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

unrelated...

but, do you find often people can't pronounce your last name in the usa?

I know several people here that have that as a last or first name and it always makes people's brain's explode when they see those sets of letters together.

:icon_razz: Ya really. I've got a long ways to go with my photoshop skills  ;)

I am also curious as to whether or not this will fix anguyens problem. With the little bit of info he posted, it is hard to say, but that is a good start. It would also make sense to check and see if file/print sharing is installed in the properties of the connection in the 2nd laptop. And I am also assuming the printer was installed as a network printer.

It would have to be, if the 1st laptop can access it, right?

No, I mean on the 2nd laptop. On the 2nd laptop, he would still have to go into Printers and add it as a printer and chose 'networked' instead of 'local'. He ought to duplicate the settings from the 1st to the 2nd but he prolly just isn't 100% sure of what settings are where.

On the desktop that the files and printer is attached to, the printer would need to be shared which is obviously is since the 1st laptop can access it.  :thumb:

But the 2nd laptop still needs to be told to look for the shared printer within the workgroup.
