H.I.D. headlight?

Just curious if anyone has ever put and H.I.D. conversion kit in for their headlight. Wondering if it is much brighter or not? I know the downfall would be having to buy both bulbs for a one light purpse. Any feedback appreciated.

I think it'll be so bright you won't have to use high beams at all...i just put one of those phillips super bright blue bulbs in and it's pretty bright!

I think the REAL HID kits are too much for the GS's.  Also, the wiring would get WAY TOO hot

Usually when converting to an HID system, all of the wiring is replaced.

I have never priced them for motorcycles, but for some automobiles they average in the $400-$1000 range.  You'd be crazy to spend that on your GS.

Get a Sylvania Silverstar.  I have always been very impressed with those bulbs.

most cars only use HID for their low beams and a regular halogen for the high beam, so you see this kit only comes with 2 ballasts/bulbs.  IMO you would only need 1 bulb, so if you found someone else who wanted HID for their MC, you could be good to go for ~$100. 

I think the way this HID kit works is there is a power line that goes from the ballast to the battery, then the stock headlight harness plugs into the ballast, but it only switches the light on and off and does not actually supply any current.  Therefore, there's no need to worry about burning up the stock wiring.

edit: if you look at that guys website, he sells a 'motorcycle' kit as well for $110, but it's just a single ballast/bulb

Correct me if I'm wrong, but even though these things come with 2 ballasts, there is still only one wiring harness.  I'd be interested in going halves with somebody on one of these kits, but I'd need to find another wiring harness.

These are actual Philips HID's ( they make alot of the OEM HID's ) they have 4 kits
two at 4300 K  Single Beam is $250.00 ( no high beam)
            4300 K  BI-Xenon has both High beam and lowbeam in same bulb. at $325.00.
The other two are 6000K and there are two sets of them also.

If you want to buy cheaper ones he also carries the McCulloch from 3000 K up to 12000K.

I think the only part of the 'wiring harness' that is common is the line the runs to the battery.  Its probably just a heavy wire that has a loop connector on one end for the battery and 2 connectors on the other end for the 2 ballasts.  This is something you would have to mess with and cut apart anyway.  If you split the kit, you would just cut apart the harness and each person would get one connector and some wire.  No big deal IMO

As far as burning up the old wiring I don't see how that would happen because H.I.D. lights run at less wattage 35W compared to 55w of a standard xenon bulb and idealy they run cooler. I'm sure I can find someone to go halves with me. Thanks for the input guys. It should look pretty good when it's all said and done.
