Lowsided the GS today

Subject says it all. I was up on ACH, one of the more popular twisties in socal. I took a turn too hot, and was going to make it out fine except for being a bit wide. Unfortunately, there was some dirt and debris near the edge of the lane. I tried to swerve in and miss it, but between kinda catching it and the swerve, tires broke loose and I lowsided. The bike and I both slid for a while, but we both stayed on the road. Luckily there was nobody coming either way.

Proving that timing is everything in life, I just got my leather pants and my Sidis a week and a half ago. I had full gear on, so I don't have a scratch on me. My gear was definitely worth every penny I paid for it. The bike didn't fare so bad either. The peg and the shifter are both bent but functional. The crankcase is scraped up, but I'm pretty sure it's only cosmetic. The handlebars are a little bent, but I was planning on replacing them anyways. (Rush delivery on SM bars is not cheap, ugh.)

I made a stupid mistake and was able to walk away, so I really can't complain. The part that really pisses me off is that I know better but let emotion/testosterone get in the way. I would have been fine if the dirt wasn't there, but that's what you get for being too close to your limits on the street. Hopefully it will be a lesson well learned, one I don't want to repeat anytime soon.

Glad you survived!  :thumb:  Sounds a good excuse to attend some free Doc Wong riding clinics, since you'll be up here soon.  Next one is Sunday the 21st: http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?s=7a8eb17aca035b1564dd164e64dafc9c&threadid=63063

Glad to hear you are a-okay and you bike survived with relativly little damage.  I nearly ate it a while ago because there was a cluster of walnuts in the road around a bend,  Lesson learned esp if riding in the fall.  Be safe

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof, is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools....

Thanks to advances in automation, Nike shoes will be made by robots. Unfortunately, the robots will be made by children in Malaysia.

D'oh!

At least you didn't leave the gear at home and end up with a ground-beef leg/arm/foot/hand and pristine gear.

and to think you and I were riding that less than a week ago.

I was riding alone, but luckily I was fine. I'm definitely mad at myself more than anything. Obviously I know I can ride the road with no problem, but when I'm out by myself I think I let my ego get the better of me. I find it a lot easier to exercise self-control in a group where I know my riding doesn't just affect me but everyone I'm with. I jumped up right away after the crash, which I'm sure was all adrenaline. I'm just hoping the healing power of youth kicks in before the soreness of waking up tomorrow.

I don't know exactly, but I would guess maybe 5 miles or so past Forest. It's where there are like 4 turns all together, basically immediate switchbacks. The last one needs to be taken slower, and I hadn't accounted for that.

well, I deffinetly hope you are up and riding again soon.

IF you are ever planning on doing ACH or AFH let me know, if I have the day off, or a late shift, I'll be more than happy to cruise down to ride with you, just so you aren't out alone.

I know exactly where you're talking about. yeah, tricky-kinda sneaks up on you how tight that last turn is. caught me out a few times too.

also, funny-when I ride by myself I find it easier to go easy and cruise (or go moderately fast) but in a group I rail...mob mentality I guess, or somehow I think if everyone is going that fast my chances of getting caught are split amongst us...
