hey guys ! im looking to put a jet kit stage 1 and i got the k&n air filter.  Will it make a difference in power that ill be able to fill ? Will it help it to get warm a lil faster ? because right now it takes for ever and it runs a lil bit to lean. It back fires when cold. big piss off thing but any ways does jet kit make that big of a difference cause its pretty expensive like the kit is 163 $ plus tax  and the labour to install it about 2 hours. a lil bit of advice would help my decision.

the answer is yes and yes... If you use the filter you have to rejet,  but you would be better off to buy the jets and do it yourself, take a look here

this way would cost you less than 20 bucks, and it's easy enough to do it yourself

I put a K&N Lunchbox and did the jetting myself and dynoed at 41.7HP with stock exhaust. With more fine tuning of the jetting I could probably bump that number up a little more.

You need...

2 127.5 Mikuni Main Jets (round)
2 size 40 Mikuni Pilot Jets (non bleeding)
2-4 #4 washers (can buy at lowes)

That is the jet kit.... the washers might not be needed if you can change the position of the needle on the f models... i have an e model so i'm not sure

Those jets don't work with the '01+ carbs. The carbs got changed to a 3-jet style, and the pilor jets were changed.

What type of filter are you running? I'm running a lunchbox-type filter with 22.5/65/137.5 jetting, but am having some issues with a misfire at idle. If you're using the K&N Drop-in with a restrictor you won't even need to rejet.

So if you're going to run a filter that flows more, why would you want to restrict it? Am I missing something??????  :cookoo:

It's just cold natured, that's all. And yes, the GS is lean, but not horribly horribly lean. Bump up the pilots, mid mains, and mains one size, and then unscrew the air/fuel screw to three turns out and that should take care of all your problems.

The K&N drop in is an OEM replacement filter. It drops into the airbox, and you'd want to restrict it so you didn't have to pull the carbs and rejet accordingly.

I posted a while back on this, my 95 was a lean pig.  Took forever to warm up, nasty hesitation off the bottom.  Very poor throttle response.  Installed a 40 pilots, 122.5 mains with one washer under the needles, and it is 95% better.  I am going to put one more washer under the needles, the midrange and top end are pretty decent now.  Stock pipe and filter.
