I am not absolutely sure, but I think that if it didn't hold vacuum, it wouldn't pull the diapraghm open.  Is there a dealer's service manager or mechanic that you know that would answer that question?  I know that my local dealer would just say, bring it in.  They won't tell you squat.

It does pull the diaphragm open. It all depends on the rate of the leak. It is slow enough for the vacuum to form in order for the diaphragm to open. Perhaps, it dpoesn't open as fully as it would if there was no leak though.

My petcock has been disassembled.  There's not much to it.  I put it back together, didn't put sealant on crap, and it works fine.  If it holds vacuum enough to stay open for 5 seconds, that's plenty of time to maintain fuel flow between intake strokes on the left cylinder.
Sorry, I won't answer motorcycle questions anymore.  I'm not f%$king friendly enough for this board.  Ask me at:

I assume it's capped off to the carb?

Are you saying that you still have fuel starvation on PRIME? Do you have a fuel filter in-line?

i don't know about the carb...i'll have to check that. It wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't. If it's not, what should i cap it off with?

And yes, i recently sputtered and died on PRIME. i haven't had time to look into it yet...and haven't taken the chance of any substantial freeway distances yet either.
