Putting a new Rear supension?

Im not hip with all you youts slang terms for motorized bicycles but if I were to add say a SV650 rear spring that would:

Raise the hind end of the bike?

and,

Would you then need to tighten/loosen the chain due to the change in the pitch:


Also, would one recommend changing the fork spring if I were to do this proceedure

and is this a hard mod to do.

do forks first or at same time as rear.

sv shock allegedly raises rear 1-2".

that will loosen the chain. readjust

sv shock install isnt hard. probably the hardest is if you redrill the mounting holes to shorten it a bit, as suggested on my site. katana shock install is a direct bolt in and raises rear 1/2"-1".

Early GSX-R rear shocks with remote reservoirs work with very minor modification as well.

For some reason, I have decided to start modifying my bike.  Mostly I think it's because I am trying to keep from getting bored and dropping $10k on a gixxer.  I've ordered some SM bars, progressive springs, and bid on an SV 650 shock on the ebay.  I was gonna get the Katana 600 shock, but I am just too temped by the pretty yellow color of the SV shock.

I'm nervous about the 1-2" raise in rear ride height, but I figure, if it sucks I can switch back to the GS stocker and try again later.  When I get the shock I'll try to take pics and measure the change in ride height and see if it feels different. 

I'm gonna have to drill new holes in the SV shock to shorten it, right?  Dumb question, but does this weaken the integrity of the mount?
