Hi everyone, I have been trying to get a 1989 gs500 in reliable working condition.  The bike is almost there.  For todays question I am having trouble with the clutch.  When I start the bike in nuetral I will try to go down into first with the clutch lever all the way depressed and it doesn't feel like it's lifting the plate because I hear a grinding sound following by the bike wanting to die because of slamming it into gear.  I have tried to adjust the clutch cable all the way up and all the way down.  All the way down it really grinds and all the way up the clutch lever doesn't even work but it still grinds.  Once I get it into first I can move from first to nuetral and back to first still holding the clutch lever with no problems.  Please help me I am desperate.  The bike has not been maintained well but It runs great.  I don't know how many miles are on it because the tach and speedo are not working.  Thank you for the help

Check to make sure that nut is tight on the actuator, under the cover, then loosen both top and bottom cable adjusters, and begin tightening only the lower one, then the upper.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?
