Removal of Center stand

hey guys, just wanted to know if i will run into any problems if i was to remove the center stand, i know that the side stand has the kill switch thingy on it, and was wondering if any problems would arise from me removing the stand?

ok thats cool. . . so yeah if i remove it. . i wont have to worry about no starting or anything like with the side stand?

Nope. Better lean clearance right into the bargain.

When you lean her over hard and hit a wave in the road it's quite probable that the centerstand hits the ground (it swings down.) Most noticeable when riding two-up.

Oh, and "nope" was a direct answer to your last question.

I love my centerstand :) Helps so much winter storage, oil checks, oil changes, working on front forks, lubing chain, adjusting chain, removing any of the wheels, removing tank (alone),  etc... any of these jobs without center stand would be a pain. Maybe i am just too practical  :dunno_white:, but take these things under your consideration, before removing center stand.

I second that notion.

yes, you can remove the centerstand with no problems, but you gain nothing in return.

for me the centerstand is a great convenience. I hate working on other (most)bikes simply because we have to find a way to stabilize them for maintenance and repairs.

even the bike stands we use are a PITA and hardly provide the type of lift necessary for the work at hand.
Not the brightest crayon in the box, but I can still be seen from a distance.  ;P

I don't know exactly but removing will not reduce your 1/4 mile time.  unless its in conjunction with removing every other none essential part.

you gain clearance. thats why I took mine off. but I kept it and bought a 8" long screw so I could temporarily reinstall it to do chain and oil/filter maintenance.

thanks for the info guys, but i had a quick go at trying to take the right hand bolt out, and got most of the way untill it hit the pipe. . .and i couldnt get it out any further. . . .how can i overcome this, or how did you others take yours out??

you will need to drop your pipe.
just undo the bolt/nut attached to the rear peg mount it should drop enough to allow you to remove that bolt.

but you raced it didn't you? Joe blow on the street won't need to worry about clearance.

I don't mean to knock this guys idea. just IMO its pointless to remove a useful tool.  oh well  :dunno_white: to each his own.
