Bike lock

I have to park my bike in a carport like situation when at home, and for now leave it there all day.  Is there something better then a BIG chain and BIG lock wraped threw the frame and around a car port pillar?  Is there anything else i should add?

The chain is probly ~1/2 inch thick as well as the lock.

If some one wants your bike, they're going to take it.  The chain, wheel lock, pitbulls... they're just going to deter the "oppurtunity theif"

Other than enclosing the carport so noone can see the bike, probably not.  I've found lately that if someone wants to mess with your bike, they will - regardless of what it's attached to.

Alrighty, here's my two cents.

Cables are WAY tougher than chain. I could only afford one at the time, but if you want to truly rock out use two, or even three.

One through the front wheel and up to the middle of the bike, the next looped through that one and down through the rear wheel, and the last one to something beefy like a light pole.

Chains would look like this   /\_   The little point between the two would rest in the seat.

My cable is 3/4" thick. Beastly.

I would say that if your leaving a bike in a mostly empty area for long periods of time that by making very obvious that its got lots of security that you will deter those oppertunity thieves but attract some thieves who want a challange and with a long space of time with no one around will get away with anything. I think the key thing is as much as possible park out of site as well as lock the bike up. Between cars and walls to make it difficult to access and hard to spot. Also park out of site of the entrance if possible.
