Got back from Moroso race park this weekend. My first track day ever. It was quite an overwhelming experience and quite an adventure. I did not know WHAT to expecto as I'd never been to an STT event or moroso raceway. Unfortunately I had to ride my bike down and have my gf follow me in her SUV loaded with supplies. Trust me, I was not happy with this at all but there were no alternatives.

So we drove down the night before (!@$% COLD and MISERABLE drive!) and pulled into the camp site around 9pm. My gf is a dang JAP (jewish american princess) so she whined about not sleeping in the tent. Ended up unloading all the supplies into the tent, putting the seats down in the SUV and sleeping there, woke up at 7am got in the park, picked a pit spot and well the rest is history.

I won't bore you with details but here are the main things.
HIGHLIGHTS
Freaking LOVED it.
Crapped my pants on session 3, first time where our speed wasn't restricted, went WAY too fast in hindsight. dragged pegs twice, scrapped my toe several times (yes it was in the proper position) Went too fast passing someone and thought I was gonna lowside during one of the shickanes (sp?) must have been on only mm of tread (I now swear by the BT-45s).
Went slower and hung off more in the later sessiosns. No one could catch me in the turns.
At the end of the day a guy on an R6 came up to me and said I was the fastest GS500 he'd ever seen. And he couldn't catch me in the turns  :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted: :2guns: :2guns:
Went off the track once (took a decreasing radius turn too tight).

Some of you may remember I was concerned about my tires. The performed BEAUTIFULLY. Almost no chicken tread left on the tires. I REALLY pushed them. I was amazed with the grip of the tires.

Also amazed how much track eats your tires. It looks like someone took a cheese grater to my tires. They were nearly new!!

We had a ton of crashes. 14 crashes before lunch, a new record  :icon_confused:

Congrats, glad it went well and you enjoyed yourself. I'm gonna do one of these soon. Also glad you didn't wad the bike up. Did the g/f take any pics of the day?

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

ahh, cheese grated tires.... i've yet to track a bike but i remember my first autox. i had crappy tires on the car (72 bmw 2002) but i was still driving the living piss out of it. i had the marks to prove i rolled those s.o.b.'s a good 1/4 of the way down the sidewall (Air preassure was just one psi lower than dead on after the 3 session.) i can't wait to trash my first set of tires on a bike.

dgyver

Wait until you get some sticky tires...then you can have some real fun.

btw...you are screwed now. Track days are addictive.

Common sense in not very common.
