my STP-SMO00 one had a smaller ring.. but i think it was a manufcaturing thing.. i just widened it and pushed it in.. works fine.. basically instead of the ring on the filter being round it was a bit compressed on one end,so it wasnt a circle on the inside, a bit of pressure and it was good to go.

Oh i did not see a pressure relief valve on mine when i installed it.

its a paper filter with a metal cap on one end and a hole on the other.

Previous oil change I got parts at dealer and they sold me a FRAM. Worked fine. Next oil change I'm switching to AMSOIL filter and synth oil.

Amsoil direct is apparently out of the SMF-112 until Jan. Anyone know where else I can get these?

I use STP SMO-00. It comes with the gasket and is $3.99 @ AutoZone.

Quote from: ScottWVI once bought an STP and the inlet hole was too small, and I know the part number was correct.

I think it was GSJack that had this same problem once.

I also think he said that STP and Fram were the same exact filter, but packaged in different boxes.

I use OEM from my local dealer and get them for $5.25 after tax.

All of the Fram and STP oil filters I've used in the past couple years have been identical.  They are Korean made and the mfg's filter number is stamped on the filter inside the box.  They are put in Fram or STP boxes with Fram or STP numbers on the boxes.  Filters inside are identical and all have had the pressure relief valves.

I got the ones with small holes 3 times.  2 Frams and 1 STP and the filters inside had a different mfg's number on them.  The put the wrong filters in the boxes.  I exchanged them for proper ones.  I change oil about once a month thru the summer months.  The STP's from the AotoZone are a buck cheaper than the Frams for the same filter.   :)  Prior to a couple years ago the Fram filters were Canadian made and of a slightly different design.

PS:  I've used Fram filters for about a half century now w/o any problems except for the couple of recent ones that were mispackaged.
