Found my bike on the side today.. :(

Today was a sucky day, I came home yesterday and parked my GS. Then covered it cuz they had promised rain, it was standing fine all night and all day today. A friend drops by and it's still standing fine.

30 mins later he leaves but comes running up the stairs saying "Your MC is down, and im not kidding".
Run down as fast as i can, and almost start crying, cuz it was just fine last time i checked, what the f%$k happened I think.

We pick it up and move it to a place where it stands better.

Now im just wondering if it was the wind that knocked it over, which sounds weird, since it was standing for almost 20 hours there just fine. Or if someone was in a bad mood and decided to take it out on me.

Luckily i only lost left mirror and had minor scratches in the fairing.. Talk about luck.

Anyways, anyone who knows what a mirror cost?

chuck on some after macket ones. the gs ones are useless any way.
weird that it fell over, mabee the cover acted like sail???
i doubt it though, your mate probaly did it

Nah, it was standing for like 20 hours with cover, and no probs, even though it was pretty windy all day.

Yeah, it was prolly my mate... I'll go knock over his Marauder..

(or not).

I just hope nothing more happens. But one can never tell.

Hmm, aftermarket ones you say, wouldn't have a clue where to look for some here in DK, and i need em fast.. Would prolly only be able to find some at an onlineauction..

Anything I should look after before starting her up next time? She was lying down for 15 - 20 mins tops.

I already checked the battery, didn't seem like it leaked, but hard to tell.

When it comes to gas, I did smell the odour from gas, but couldn't see if it had been leaking (it prolly have) and how much as it's raining and it wasn't parked on pavement.

When you parked did you keep the bike in first gear or neutral? You should always leave it in gear and let it roll forward (engine off, clutch out) until it can't go any further (or if you're parking on an upward incline, let it roll back all the way). If it was in neutral the wind might have just pushed it forward a bit to the point of rendering the kickstand ineffective. Oh, also always make sure the kickstand is down all the way -- I've come close to dropping my GS because of this.

Well, I park it in neutral, but on the central stand cuz of the shitty parking lot here..
When using the kickstand I always put it down and drag the bike back till im sure the kickstand is 100% stable. Then i get my ass off the bike.

don't rely on the center stand. unless it is level and on hard ground IE pavement better yet concrete. as pavement sinks as it heats up with weight on it.

Apparently so... Well, shaZam! happens. I've figured that out by now. I parked it at a sewer cover plate (correct me if im using the wrong word here).. Hope that helps..

I hate not having a garage for it.

This one is made of concrete of some sort. It used to be on standing out on some gravel alike parking lot. But I moved it after today.
Added a pic (I found it on google, but should illustrate what i mean)

any motor bike shop will have new mirrors its an 8mm thread mine cost £10 for the pair so about £15 euros

Hmm, i haven't had my bike for that long, so not really sure about onlineshops, I do have a local shop here, dedicated for MC's. Gonna go there tomorrow and hear what he wants.

Prolly expensive as hell cuz of all the taxes and shaZam!.

Well, I gotta learn the hard way it seems.

But I doubt it can get any worse than now luckily. I just hope it'll start tomorrow when im gonna try and find a new mirror.

Actually it wouldn't make a difference if it's on the center stand.

Tried starting her this morning, engine wasn't too happy, if I gave it to many revs at first, it "died" on me, then if i backed off with the revs and took it slow back up, it would work.

Then came to mind that I should check the oil (since it was lying on the left side). I wouldn't know if this is worse than if i had found it on the right side, but I would guess it is.

If it's low on oil (i'll check when I come home from school) does it mean that it's moved into the engine and I need to tear the damn thing apart and clean it? Or?

Any "guru's" here who can help me on this issue?
