So i am trying to shim the needles..

problem one:
i got one carb cover off..  how do i get the needle off the diaphram?

problem two:

the damn second screw on the carb cover IS STUCK and i cant get it free.. its stripping as i try to turn.. I have put penetrating lube and i have tried hammering it too.. nothing as yet.

the third problem is what kind of fuel hose do we use? i need fuel hose.. mine is very brittle (main line), i can splice and use the shortened one but i want to get new hose soon.

M

PS: i put in 20, 62.5 and 145 jets ( i took out the 65's).. how much on the needles do i go?

Take a trip to (Your local parts store) and ask for fuel hose. Not quite sure what size but if you took a piece of the old hose, I'm sure that they could match it up for you.

Carefully pull out the diaphragm, hold out your hand and turn it upside-down.  Out she comes.  Watch out for the little plastic spring spacer and washers under the needle.

Vise grips.

I believe the stock size is 7mm.  1/4" should work fine.  Regular NAPA brand fuel hose is what I use.

Why the jetting change in the first place?  What have you changed to require a jetting change?

Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

Vise grips.

Maybe you could try a drill. It should break it loose.

oh i am changing the jetting cause this is the history

stock: 17.5, 60, 127.5 with K&N lunchbox
First jetting: 20, 62.5, 137.5 ---> was leaning out badly .. unrideable on freeway at 65.
second jetting: 20, 65, 145 --> leaning out at 80mph.. but not as  bad
third session: 20, 62.5 and 145 but i am going to shim the needles up by 2 or 3.

edit:

how do i take out the needle from teh first 2 pics.

i had a problem with getting one of my screws out of my float bowl i took a pair of wire cutters use some that you dont care if you screw them up you know the ones that are called dykes they grab really good and try that if that doesnt work go to your local tool store get a easy out and on the package it will tell you what size drill bit you need

drill a 1/4 inch hole in it take the easy out and a pair of vice grips and it will come out that way i work with helicopters and that is how we get stripped screws and bolts out

Big phillips head bit and abit of WD should take care of that screw. Pic 2: How about some needle nose pliers?

Big pair of vice grips clamped down hard on the screw head.

Take the mangled screw to the local hardware store and buy cap head screws to replace them all, stainless steel if you can find them.

I hope vice grip does it for you, but I had to use impact screw driver to get my float bowl off. Great tool. Works like a charm.

On the different subject, what does jet needle do? What does shimming it accomplish?

I don't know about the newer bikes, but my 99 uses 5/16 (8mm) fuel hose.

For more than you need to know about fuel hose, see this old thread.

Here's another option for your stripped screw:
