guage cluster vs. triple cover

i've brought this up a few times before but cant seem to get an answer; maybe someone can help.

does the guage cluster bolt on to the triple-clamp cover, or the triple clamp itself, or BOTH? so if I remove that triple clamp cover will I have somewhere to re-bolt the guages or will they dangle freely?

just from looking, it seems that the guages are connected only to the triple cover itself. however; people who have removed the triple cover make no mention to having a problem reconnecting the guages.

does anyone know?

yes it just bolts on with the two visable carrage bolts that you can see. no you won't have a place to mount it if you take it off.  but zipties will work just fine.
