Isn't the dealer financeing done by 3rd parties anyway?  Then the dealer would not care weather the bike was financed or paid cash as the dealer would get the same money. . . the finance company would get the loan interest.  Anyway definatly check cycletrader.com  I looked on there after I got my bike and saw the same about 500 to 800 cheaper, but I would have to drive over 3 hrs to get there.  I figured my time was worth more than 500-800 dollars.
Pilot 22.5, Mid 65 , Mains 147.5, Mixture screw 3.5 turns out

Even if the voices aren't real they have some good ideas.

You're dead set right! 3rd party operators provide finance. The dealers usually get charged a fee or small percentage for using finance serivce provider.

The dealers benefit from the finance arrangment is that people who couldn't usually afford to buy right now, are noe able to. So they make the sale.

Eitherway, there is a delay in time from sale with finance, and when the dealer gets their money. That's why they will ALWAYS do a better deal for cold hard cash.

With cash the dealer gets it in their hot little hands straight away, no fee's, no catches. That's why they love it!

(P.S. I used to be in sales. Till I realised it was evil!  :icon_twisted: )

First off, Welcome, Ostwayne!

I'll echo the buying a used bike is a wise choice, other than that, here's my take:

I used to be a motorcycle salesman back in '89-'90.  On 500cc's, we had about $100-$150 off of the list price to deal with, but we still had to add the $60 set-up fee for the mechanics time to set the bike up ready-to-ride; this included fluid in the battery and charging it (for at least 4hrs (not enough IMO)) and filling the crankcase with oil (3 $4 quarts @ no charge).  So, if we sold it to you @ cost, we wouldn't be able to keep our doors open.  It's a "You-scratch-my-back, I'll-scratch-your's" kinda deal.  It also depends on the dealer's overhead.

The price you were quoted was OTD (out the door), right?  That's including tax, lic. and registration.  I'd say jump on it.  Tax on $5149 (M.S.R.P.) is (@8.25%) = 424.79 in tax alone.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?
