Idle Adjustment not working?

I can't seem to get my bike to idle below 1500-1700 rpm.  I've been messing with the idle adjustment knob for a while and the idle will never go down no matter how much I loosen it.  I can get the idle to slightly increase by tightening the screw, but that's about it.  If the screw is too loose, will this cause problems?

Any ideas what could be causing this?  It's an '04 GS500F and has around 750 miles on it.  I just got it last weekend (600 miles then) and had the 600 mile service done at the beginning of last week.

check the cable adjustment, you may have it caught on some thing,

which cable... throttle cable?  It might be too tight.  I notice that when I turn the handle bars to full lock right the idle increases to 3000 rpm.  I don't know how to adjust the throttle though.

The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

Yep... it was the throttle cable.  I looked in my manual and found instructions for adjusting it.  After adjusting the cable, I went for a 10 minute ride and then adjusted the idle.  Everything is much better now.  Thanks guys!
