anyone got pics or a link to how to do this?...

I'm not sure which petcock you were talking about, so allow me to start fresh.

To get the most fuel out of the tank, drain it using the REServe hose.  It connects to the longer of the brass tubes that point down from the fuel tank-mounted petcock.

To drain each carburetor, put a container under the drain spout and loosen the drain screw.  The drain screw on an '01 is item 13 in this MrCycles diagram.  The spout isn't visible in the diagram, but you can see the old-style (pre-'01) arrangement on the Float Height Check page.

ok, so the "petcock" under the tank has a hose that connects to the frame mounted petcock....i unhooked the hose going from under the tank directly to the frame mounted petcock (its immediately to the right of "PRI") and let the gas drain.....

so i should also unscrew the two drain screws under the carbs then too, right? :dunno_white: , then the carbs will be drained as well?...this wont hurt the floats or get them out of adjustment to completely drain it will it?

That's right.

Nope.  They'll just stop floating because there's nothing to float IN.  When you reintroduce fuel (using the PRI setting) they will "float" again.

the best way to drain the gas is the take the tank off  underneath the tank there is a tank mounted petcock turn so that its in the off position then take the hoses off and drain the tank you need to get as much out of it as  you can because the old gas will turn to varnish

then you should go ahead take the carbs off and clean em out just go to you the nearest autoparts store or wall mart and get you some berrymans b12 you dont have to tear the carbs completely apart just take the bowls off spray some berrymans in there take a guitar string or really skinny wire and run it throught every hole  then take some berrymans and spray in all the places where the hoses go and blow through them to make sure they are cleaned out  i had to do the same thing to a bike that set for 10 years i had it running in about a month

then just put everything back like it was take pictures so you know where everything goes oh yea get a millimeter ruler check the float height by turn the carbs up side down

after you have everything done run about a 1/4 can of berryman in for the next 3 to 4 tanks of gas

no if the bike will start what i would do is drain the gas tank completely you are still gonna need to take it off after the tank is off crank the bike let it run all the old gas out but the tank back on fill with gas and run berrymans for next 3 to 4 tanks and you should be good to go
