So this guy has been posting his GS500f 2005 model for $4995. http://portland.craigslist.org/mcy/167585684.html
I emailed him basically saying that his bike would sell if he weren't trying to rip people off. And that I could go to the dealer and pay $5000 (plus DMV $160 fee) for the bike brand new. Here's his responce.
"Are you really serious, lets see $5,200.00 msrp $450 for freight charge and 160 for dmv lisensing. Wow you must be really dump to think you could get a brand new one for 5k. Get a life! "

Then I told him that I already did go to the dealer and paid $5000 plus $150 for DMV (sorry i forgot it was $160, please forgive me)

"your so full of shaZam!, you just said you could go pay 5k. Get a life bro and quit trying to hate on people who have bikes. NO DEALER SELLS A BRAND NEW BIKE WITHOUT LISENCING AND FREIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And 150 is full of shaZam! its been 160 for several years dumbass. YOU WANT TO SEE MY PAPERWORK IDIOT!!!!! "

It's funny, because I actually paid $5160 for my bike! So how much did you pay for your GS500F?

This guy does have a point. Rarely will a dealer let it go for the flat $5000. Before I bought my '01 I went into a dealer just for kicks and tried to get a new one. He told me $5000 the whole time, and so I decided why not get the paperwork done while I'm here just to see. So all things said and done, the paperwork showed a $600 fee for assembly and transport, a $100 paperwork fee (or something), and then you have to add sales tax to all of that. It ended up being about $6500 total.

THe only suzuki dealer near me sadly, so looks like I'll always be buying used.

Yea I just figured it was a typo. 5000 for an '05 is absurd

dealer told me price was 5149msrp + this + that = around 6K

told him i wanted it for 5149 OTD, he went to talk to his manager and said he could do it for 5238 OTD...so i took it.

no hassle, no nothing.  wrote a check for it that day and bought it.  that guy's a jerk

Last time I was at the dealer and was looking at the bikes (a month or 2 ago) they still had a black/red 2005 for $4995+dmv fee no freight and set up. This bike was there (they told me it was the last one) when I bought mine back end of last summer. I wanted a blue one more so I went accross town and they matched the price.

Yeah...that's right, blue is better!!!

I just bought an 05, new at the dealer (leftover from last year, 0 kms on it) for $4495 Canadian. There were some little fees and such but I still got out of there for less than that guy wants.

I just like throwing this number out because I got such a sweet deal....Brand-spankin-New '05 blue gs500f for $3999 OTD here in SoCal. I don't know if crack makes you think things worth more than they actually are, but if thats true, I might just hand out some crack when i go to sell my bike and see if I can make a profit  :icon_lol:

Being a fellow Portlander, I was gonna write this guy and just say "hey, nice bike, but it may be priced a little high, try $4500 or something...", but then I decided to forget about it and cancelled the message. If that's what he wants to try and get, then he will regardless of what we say. I'm gonna try to get no less than $4K when I sell mine (2005) coming up here pretty soon, and I'm sure someone will tell me that's crazy also.

I'm agreeing with people here, by the way. Just saying that sometimes it isn't worth dealing with it.

Someone email him a link to this thread...I would but my internet explorer doesn't like craigslist for some reason...

I responded to an ad on craigslist from a guy looking for a starter sportbike. I told him about my GSF and sent some photos and said the KBB retail value is $3,505. He wrote back saying the GSF is one bike he's considered and copied the paragraph that explains the KBB retail value, saying basically there's no way he's paying retail value.

I responded that I thought the retail value is a fair starting point and I looked forward to hearing from him again. He didn't respond.
