Cleaning of petcock

Hey guys... been a long time since I have been on here!  I am planning on cleaning the petcock this weekend... I think it's been gummed up, as it only runs in reserve.... it will run for a bit in the On position then it dies.. I am going to check to make sure the vaacume hose it hooked up appropriately.. Is there any chance I could soak the petcock system in diesel or spray carb cleaner in it.. I really don't want to disassemble the unit as I have seen some problems in other posts.. I am concerned that the carb cleaner might ruin the o-rings or other plastic parts... Any ideas?

Soak it in parafin and use a paint brush to clean the outside. Anything you do to take it apart should be reversable i think.

LOL... yeah I didn't quite know what that was... Looked it up and saw wax blocks...  Thought it was a joke... So you guys think kerosene over diesel?

OK no need to soak it in anything. Take it apart ... the face plate can be pried off with a small screwdriver and the back is un screwable ...
