What exactly does a mid-jet do?

So i am trying to get the logic behind the carbs and i think i almost did, but i dont quite understand what mid-jet is for.

1. As i understand it pilot jet is for supplying fuel when the butterfly valves (throttle) are closed.
2. Needle raises and allows the fuel to flow through main jet, untill it rises so much that
3. main jet limits the fuel supply.

And so you get three of mentioned thingies to be responsable for different throttle positions.

Now where does the mid-jet come in to the picture? What suzuki wanted to gain by changing the carbs?
If anyone have read about it or just know it please share with me and other interessed.

It confuses the heck out of me ...
I have been leaving it alone ... bump up the pilots and the mains and lift needle ... I guess that will add in enough fuel to let you leave it be.
Cool.
