Fat tire rubbing

I've had my '92 GS500E for about 6 weeks now. 
I recently posted a thread about my chain breaking.  When I put my new chain and sprockets on, I was concerned because the wheel didn't spin very freely.  I took it for a ride, it worked fine, and spun freely after that. 

However, upon closer examination of my bike, the right hand edge of the rear tire was shaved off.  There was probably only 1-2 mm gone, and it was at the part where the sidewall meets the tread.  There was a little imperfection on the arm that holds the rear brake caliper in place.  It was here that the tire was shaved off.  The other side had almost no clearance between the chain guard and wheel either.

At first I thought I must have messed up the wheel alignment or something, but it was smoothly shaved all around.  Then looking at the tire, I saw that it was a Metzeler 150/70/ zr17.  I know stock is a 130.  I didn't even think it was possible to put a 150 on this bike.  Anyways, I immediately ordered a stock size tire, it will be here tomorrow.  There isn't really a way to adjust the wheel laterally is there?  I just don't see why it started shaving it off now as opposed to before.  I had to move the wheel in a bit because the new chain was tighter than the old one.  In doing so, I had to move the brake caliper arm in order to get the hole to line up with the axle.  Could that have made it start shaving the tire?

You could have changed the alignment of the wheel when you adjusted it...  It was either off before or it's off now.

People have run 150 tires before...  Search around for some threads.

Well, it will be a moot point for the tire.  I'm not riding around on a damaged tire, and the replacement will be stock.  I'm more concerned about the alignment.  I screwed both sides all the way out, made a notch on the nut, and was careful to do the same number of rotations on each side.  I guess I'm wondering if anything else could change the alignment.

I've heard you can eye-ball it and tell...     I couldn't see jack... 

If you've done everything you can to make sure it's straight, then it was probably off before.   

Maybe someone (that knows what they're talking about) will give you some clues.
