I have just "accessorised" my GS500 with a set of waterproof speakers from the USA and a not too waterproof amplifier:

great idea if you plan on listening ONLY when you're stopped.  IMO, the only sounds you should listen to during riding are the beautiful sounds of the GS.

I do most of my riding in London and 60% of my riding consists of filtering. I can not wear earphones because I want to hear the cars. I tested the speakers today at 45-50 mph with my visor up and down with the volume on 3/4 and I could hear the music very well especially with the visor up.

I do have a Top Box and have already joked about that the entire morning thank you very much.  :thumb:

Nice mod tho. . . I can see where it would be nice to have music on longer rides.

If you aren't happy with your headphones, give these little guys a consideration:

That is what I am using. Great sound isolation and quite an incredible sound quality. Even when I didn't ride while listening to music, I always wore ear plugs to prevent me going deaf from wind, engine and road noise. I kinda doubt I am missing much of the awareness of the road by wearing ear plugs/phones. I couldn't hear anything behind the noise of the ride anways.

Anyway, these in-ear-canal headphones are great. Especially if you consider the price they are sold on Amazon.
They used to be sold $10 cheaper when I got them. But even at $80 they are still a good deal. MSRP is $200. They were designed by Etymotics and approach their own top of the line $300 model.

I'd be cautious about some obscure brand. Better get something reputable that works. Another thing about these iM716 that may be handy is that they have volume pod on the cable. Volume control maybe handy to have easilly accessible and also the volume pod has a clip, which, actually, proved to be very useful to ensure that there is a cable slack. Before I started clipping it to my shirt, I would get a pull on the cable everytime I'd turn my head to check blind spot before changing lanes. That would pull on the phones and produce uncomfortable feeling and reduce the seal inside of the ear.
