For all of you that have a V&H system, here's the question. On Bike Bandit they sell just the aluminum canister for 30 bucks. I already have a Vance and Hines system on my bike, but the bike was dropped in sand and rocks, and the canister is pretty scuffed and scratched. I want to buy the replacement, but the can looks riveted on. How hard of a replacement would this be. I know nothing about rivets, but I am very mechanically inclined, so I would be up for replacement...anyone done this before, or have thoughts?
How hard would this be?
thanks in advance! :thumb:

Wait, you mean I can just buy the Vance and Hines exhaust for 30 dollars or does cannister mean something else? Please tell I can just buy the V&H can and swap that out with my stock can.

i don't think this is like the wileyco's where all you need is a flange, the v&h exhaust is two pieces...the header 2 into 1, and then from the midpoint back to the can.
as bikebandit doesn't show a picture, i'm not sure what I'd get...anyone else WITH the system have comments?

.. OK.. after looking at the link.. That seems to be what I am talking about.. You have to remove the VH tag from the pipe.. drill out the rivets and replace the aluminum skin.. re-rivet and attatch!

I would deff call bikeĀ  bandit.. But I am 90% sure this will be the right part for what you need

see the rivets on mine..

For 30, this is most likely just the open can, the muffler itself. No piping, no headers, just the silencer (muffler, can, whatever). I forget how my old one was attatched though. If it's riveted onto the midpipe then you should be able to pull the rivets out (somehow, I know there is a way) and then re-rivet the new can in place. If it's welded, you might have to pop the rivets off the endcap and slip the can into place and re-rivet that to the endcap. If the whole thing is welded on, well, get welding buddy boy.

Call up Bike Bandit and talk to someone, they should be able to answer your questions.

Rivets come out easily with a drill. You can buy a hand riveter for less than 20 bucks at Lowe's or Home Depot, etc. Just make sure when you put the new rivets in that you get the right size - they go by the size of the hole drilled in whatever you're riveting.

well, I ordered the can..and low and behold, what did I find as I was looking at Bikebandit? a set of rivets specifically for this exhaust...$5. And, I went ahead and ordered a new V&H tag as well, for $3. Cool, now I can replace the canister, spray the pipe with some grill paint, and she'll be good as new! I just have to go get the hand riveter, and we're there! :thumb:

Can you do us a favor?  When you get the item in, please take two pictures...  One of the whole can, and one of the intake end.

I'd like to see if it's something that can be used to replace the stock can with.  Thankz
