Chain problem!!

My chain is hitting my centerstand! I noticed one of the pegs on my centerstand looks a little ground up... Is this a chain tension problem, or should I put a spacer on my centerstand to make it sit a bit lower, or what? I hope it can wait another 50-75 miles... I'll be doing a bunch more work on my bike tomorrow, so I'll fix it then, but I don't even know what the problem is...

My centerstand bounces a bit too, every now and then I'll feel it hit the bottom of my boot. So, what's up? I thought my chain was too tight... But it seems to be running good right now, so I think it can wait until tomorrow.

A note on the 15 tooth front sprocket - I love it. Bit quicker acceleration through town, but on the freeway, I can accelerate a LOT faster in 6th! 6th feels like 5th on the freeway. Is it not good to be running 85 at 8k RPMs for extended periods of time? Then again, I suppose it is a high-revving zuki... But still, I don't want to overheat anything...

What's your chain slack?  It should still be .8 to 1.2 inches.

Well... I'm not too sure... Define "slack"... Does that just mean how far it can move? I can get it to move that far, but it's a lot tighter than my old chain (or is that supposed to be the case??)

Yes.  Push up on the chain in the middle between the two sprockets, this is about where the foot of the centerstand is (just aft of it); it should only move about an inch.

do you have the original shock? or is your preload set high?

i put in a katana shock, and found that the chain would slightly hit the centerstand. i adjsuted the tension but its still pretty close.

the centerstand moving around doesn't sound like a good thing. have you lost the bumper that the centerstand butts up against?

part number 7. i think it mounts to a braket on the stock exhaust.

please describe in more detail how the stand hits your boot. i can't picture it happening on my bike.

Yeah, I don't have #7. When my center stand comes up, it hits metal... I guess I'll have to fabricate something. Also it sounds like my chain tension is alright...

Only move an inch up or down from where it currently sits? My chain can go about 1/4" down and 3/4" up. Or is it an inch either way?

Also, I'm pretty sure I have the stock rear suspension being the front is stock (but not for long!  :icon_twisted:)

As for the revs question. All bikes are tested for months just running on rolling roads at different rpm's thats why you have a redline. Theres nothing wrong with running at high rpm. If it does over heat then its unnatural cirumstances - heat wave or a problem somewhere on the bike. If you right on the redline then i would suggest its not good for the bike but 8k shudnt be bad at all.

An inch total movement.  I'm surprised you get a 1/4" downward movement, that seems to be a lot to me...but, you said you have 3/4" upwards, so that would be okay.

Kasumi - Yeah, you're right. Good ol high revvin zuki's got no problems  :thumb:

Scratch - I think it loosened up and "broke in" or something, because now the chain tension seems right.

Don't forget...chain stretch is NOT uniform in all spots on the chain.  This is why all manuals advise to check the chain tension in many spots on the chain.  If your chain seemed loose before and now seems fine, it could simply be because you are checking it in a different spot on the chain.

Well, my ghetto fix seems to be working well enough (just need to get some black duct tape to cover the stupid eye-sore blue stuff)... I'd just rather not spend the time and money on pursuing that route if my cheap fix works with no problems.
