Re-sale value question

Recently I've been thinking about hacking off my pasenger footpeg brackets and either replacing them with a bolt on set from a different bike or just leaving them removed until the time comes for me to sell the bike.

Something similar to this: http://pantablo500.tripod.com/id19.html

How would y'all feel if you were looking at a GS with this done? Would it take away from the re-sale value or have a negligable difference? Thoughts? Opinions?

Honestly, if I were some dude looking to buy your GS off you, last on my list of critiques would be your passenger footpegs.  I doubt some GSX-R pegs would detrract from the value of your bike, so if you're into throwing some on there, I'd say go for it.
2004 GS500F -- yellow. Pretty much stock.

man love the idea, u need to post some pics
Full racing exhaust, jet kit, kn filter

i doubt most people would even notice it much less enough to make them offer less for the bike.

I wouldn't care. 2up is something that's far, far in the future for me, if ever at all. I'd think it was cool. I wouldn't want to pay more for it.. but I wouldn't expect a discount either.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

Pretty much everything you do to take it away from stock, except for maybe rejetting and some fork springs, makes it worth less.  I know that pipes, aftermarket  turnsignals and mirrors and such cost a lot of money, but if it isn't stock, a dealer will grind you over it, and then promote the aftermarket stuff to a prospective buyer.  I also prefer to buy stock, if at all possible.

Yeah, that's my issues. I wouldn't sell it to a dealer though, as they screw you for trade in value. Definitely not worth it, IMO. That's my main concern though, the whole "away from stock" thing, and especially hacking off a frame piece (even though I would replace them). Eh.

Wouldn't phase me, I guess, though I can't say I care for the looks one way or another, doesn't seem like a drastic improvement... but I'm always suspicious of someone else's welds.

The whole concept of picking up an unexpected pillion is sort of moot in this state. What with the mandatory helmet laws, you're not going to be giving impromptu rides to impress the chicas anyway. Maybe giving a lift to someone who crashed...

Replacing these wouldn't require welding, thankfully. You hack off the passenger pegs and then clean and repaint the frame (if necessary). After that you centerpunch and drill holes to bolt the new passenger pegs to.

I'd be doing this so I could have a high-mount exhaust, namely a Holeshot highmount:

I'd make my own exhaust hanger.

Brian, if you want an exhaust like that I'll build it for ya...:D.  Send me a stocker for jigging and I'll hook you up for the cost of plumbing.  I think I can even build it around the stock pillion peg.

Oh yeah, and there's no way I'd saw off the pillion peg without a solo-tail...which would require no so easy alterations to the stock subframe.

Yeah, but I can't have my bike down and out for 2 weeks with no exhaust. Maybe if I find a cheapy exhaust I'll have it sent to you. I'll look around.

My options for cans right now are a Yoshimura oval and the Holeshot highmount, but I don't know which. My father is deciding on which one he wants to use and I'll get the extra one for free. He might cut the Yoshimura and make it shorter and try to get it onto the highmount if he can. Dunno right now. I'll look into buying a cheap-y exhaust for you to jig up, Mak.

Oh I thought you had an extra setup...

What's your dad fitting up?  He setting something up for your bike?

He might be chopping the Yoshimura oval and making it a shorty can and then fitting it to the Holeshot's highmount pipe. That means I'd get the short round Holeshot can. If that doesn't work I'd get the Yoshimura oval can. It'd be free plus whatever the cost to fashion up a midpipe. Spending a little extra to ship you an exhaust and fab up a custom one might be worth the extra.
