track question (not drag srtip)

This question is mainly to those who ride on the track, not the drag strip. I was wondering can our bike keep up with 600cc bikes? I recently heard of an avandone airport near the area where i live and some rinding buddies of mine sayd that a lot of gsx go to ride their and they got like a track type thing going on. So im thinking about going one day, but i dont want to completly embarase myself ( i have no other track experience other than the drag on back roads, which really dosent count). Thats the main reason why i want to know if my bike can keep up. Thank you very much

Nick, it is 10% bike and 90% rider.  With little/no experience...you're likely to mess up your bike and injure yourself if you only goal is to "keep up with others".  Ride your own ride.  All track riders and successful racers started out sucking on the track.  You have to work on personal improvement before you can even worry about the other riders.

I dont see why not keeping up w/ them would be ambarrassing yourself; that's the complete WRONG mindset one should be bringing to a track.
If you can get to a track, DO IT!
the 600cc bikes are a lot faster. If you're an experienced rider you may be able to keep up with them if the track is very tight & technical like up here in NH. In the straights they'll burn you though.
On the positive side, you'll learn track riding a lot faster on the 500 than a 600, because the bike forces you to work it to go fast. You're not just rolling on the throttle & holding on for the ride like on a 600.
Track riding isnt about group riding. when your friends go they're probably all over different parts of the track. It's not about looking cool, riding in packs, or any of that street stuff. It's only between you, your bike, and testing the limits.
If your friends visit the track regularly, you probably wouldnt be able too keep up with their 600s even if you were riding a 1000 on your first day. It takes a lot of practice and skill to get good. Once you get on the track you'll be starting all the way at the bottom of the totem pole again. but it's more than worth it.

do u mean it's an abandoned airport??
is it a real track? or is it where a bunch of gixxers go to mess around. could be complete opposites, but worth checking out I think.

its an abandone aiport and they created like a little track from what i heard. U can do prety much anything u want.

turd said it right the first time its mostly the rider . if its not a real track then when you go out there take your time dont try to keep up . just learn the setup and get use to your bike .  to your answer . yes if its a tight track and your a good rider you can keep up . i go riding with some 900RR's zx10's 600's on the twistes here . and i normaly stay in front .

dude....just ride the gs....and have fun.....if its your first time....your gonna get blown anyways.....ride your ride, be smooth and screw everyone else.....


ps....when your used to it, its fun to blow past a 600

lol well do, hey is their anything i should dp to my bike or do you think its just good enough to take with just the a sprocket on.? and should i try to protect the engine incase i crash?

Would be a wise idea.  The ignition signal generator cover on the right side is very thin, and shearing off the signal generator underneath would render the bike useless (you would have to replace the crank).

With these little GS's, you learn to keep the corner speed up.   And it is kind of fun sticking it underneath some of those guys with their sport bikes, and taking the corner from them.  Of course if there is any kind of a straight coming up, it's all over.

Not necessarily an "E", but a naked GS500.  (You could be like Alpha and go from faull fairing to naked)

He can't do that. He lives in Florida (Miami, I think?) where you aren't cool if your bike doesn't have a full fairing.

no its not that, i just dont like naked bikes, their not the type of bike i like. The only naked bike i thought of getting was the 599.
