I know a bit about VFDs, I see them in my line of work. Whats the problem with it?

porsche4786

I've got this yaskawa GPD 506 I think. I'm at home now and don't care. When I got it in it was in an enclosure with a bypass, and circuit breaker and everything, and it was hooked up with a start, stop, and a POT. I took it out, and had to buy a cover for it, and the keypad. The keypad they gave me will not work, with the drive. I thought I just had something set wrong (maybe I still do) so I found a magnetek brand (same thing, somebody makes it for the both of them) and took the keypad, put it on this drive and it worked no problem. This keypad is older, and I guess it's no longer available. I've narrowed it down to either, I'm doing something wrong, the keypad they sent is no good, or the keypad they say will work with this drive will not work with this drive. Also, I was playing around with the parameters with the magketek keypad and no matter what I do I cannot get the motor to start out smoothly, it starts very rough. I think I have the torque settings in the right spot, and I have the accel and decel set at 5 seconds.

Sounds like the motor is "cogging", or shudders at low speed settings.

What kind of motor are you trying to operate?  3ph I assume...

Can you adjust the carrier frequency?  That could sort out the problem.

Try to get a manual for that thing, it will have the info necessary to set it up for your application.  (On the assumption it's suitable for your application.)  When in doubt call tech support and complain.

You might try doing some searching here:

Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

I personaly cant help with this one but it sounds like a parameter issue to me, or if there a feedback device on the motor are you sure its functioning correctly? My Drives guru is on his hols until the week after next and I am sure he will have an answer. Alternatively post your question in this forum, I use it all the time its regarded by the industry as the best there is and someone in there will have an answer for you.

It's kinda weird, it's the first time I haven't been able to fix this. Usually the motor will do this when start up is set too slow. I set it to start up in 5 seconds to full speed. This isn't a permanent application, I just sell new and used electrical equipment. I have it hooked up to a newer baldor 3hp (the drive is for 5hp) motor that has the ISC? wire. I'm also running this on 460.
I cant wait to get to work and jump on this thing! I only wasted half the day yesterday trying to figure the damn thing out.
