You can even distill alcohol to use as fuel, I believe.  The real reason it's illegal to distill drinking alcohol is becuase they can't really tax it.

As for the 21 bit, I don't know which act specifcally makes it "making beer" and therefore illegal, but I just know that the law specifies you must be 21.  But like I said, no one's going to stop you.  Just go to your local homebrew store, buy the stuff, and get started.  It's a ton of fun.

I already brew...

don't forget that an improperly made moonshine can contain all sorts of nasty stuff.  From still explosions to poisoning to the fuzz coming for you, running a still for beverage alcohol is dangerous on many levels.  :nono:

now you can legally ferment as strong as possible.  If you are so inclined, distillers yeast is commercially available and will put a high gravity wort up to about 20% alcohol by volume.  The catch is that it will taste nasty if you don't distill it.  Even so, I've always been tempted to try to come up with a recipe that uses it, just so I can brag that my beer is as strong as schapps.

The kit from the place I go to is $140 with every thing you need except for the recipe, the bottles, and water....at least, as far as I remember. The recipe's are around $25 for a 5 gallon batch ( I get about 50 bottles every time).

yeah, plan on investing about 100 bucks or so to get started with a basic setup.  from there, its basically 15 to 20 bucks a case.  you will have to buy sanitizer, caps, etc... to keep  your operation going, but they are a small expense compared to startup and ingredients.

It is cheeper in the long run compared to buying beer all the time, plus you get better quality beer and can make whatever you want. And you will get a good education on beer.
