What brand/size is best for a bike cover for an 05 GS500F?  The bike will be housed outside during the summer (so.. rain, thunderstorms, etc) and inside a storage unit during the winter.

Has a big selection.  For travel, I got a Medium Dowco Guardian Ultralite.  It fits well on an 05F with touring screen.
It is too light for a daily storage cover.  Nice and compact for a travel cover.
