2 words......    OVER RATED

It bothers me that nascar drivers get way more coverage/glory/fame and sometimes money than most other driving "professionals".

I say "professionals" because is it really all that shocking when a neebie can step into a fairly sucessful nascar career? Im not naming names here...
...Im just saying how hard can it be, if an average joe can do it, and do it well if he has the right amount of money?

Nepotism runs through out nascar for a good reason...you have no chance at doing it for a living unless you already have a foot int the door.

I aint stooopid, if I (because of my family) were handed a golden set of nascar keys and asked if I wanna spend my life making lots of money, being world famous, getting all kinds of women or....well just being an average person....I choose the first....who wouldnt?

And the fact that most races are spent in fourth gear turning left the whole time bothers me....I mean watch a cart/indy race sometime....if you respect nascar drivers for what they do, then you should consider indy car drivers GOWDS. They fire through gears non stop, and juggle turning too?!?! :o  I wont even get into super bike racing compaired to the skill it takes to drive a nascar....because they dont even come close.

Im not knocking nascar....I think any form of racing is great....it just bothers me to see little kids looking up to a nascar drivers....they arent idols...they are just "drivers"....who are waaaaaay over paid. Its obvious that skill doesnt really have anything to do with it....just money....and who has the most to buy a better team and make there car go faster...

As far as them being "athletes", welp tony stewart is a good example...you can be a big fat ass and still claim to be an "athlete"...atleast in nascar.
You think someone like valentino rossi or miguel duhamel could be that out of shape and still win races? eh.

Dont get me wrong, I watch nascar....usually on sunday afternoon...it relax's me....and usualy puts me to sleep.

Anyway, Im not knocking anyone into nascar....I enjoy things that Im sure some people would consider boring also...

Aj, would you slap me if I said I wouldn't mind so long as I got to watch? (Sorry, don't kill me only joking!! I'm sorry, don't kill me, OWW LEAVE THE ROAD RASH ALONE OMG OW!!!!!)

I don't like NASCAR. I don't like most comercial racing. Why?

Not really any room for innovation.

NASCAR is special to me like a ping pong ball going round in a toilet.

Bike racing is more interesting to me for obvious reasons.

Still boring, unless I'm racing.
Rich, RIP.

Sure I dont mind slapping you around but you need to ask my better half if that's ok.  :thumb:

imo see my sig. thats all it is to me. just my opinion thats all. if you like it, fine! great! enjoy!, however, im not old enough to have been around for it, but nascar back in the day when someone actually drove a ford, chevrolet, dodge or whatever that they actually bought from the stealer. or whereever. now-a-days, youre not driving any particular make/model. most of which these cars dont have 2 doors in the real world anyway. youre driving a frame built buy a framebuilder, and a body usually fabbed in your shop. it might be slower, but, id watch it, if they would get the car from the dealer, remove seats install road cage etc. and race the hell out of it.

I liked it back in the 70's when I was like 5 and watched it with my dad and older brother. Back when Richard Petty was king and cars were actually different than each other. Now it's a soap opera on wheels, or maybe more like professional wrestling.

I'm a big fan of SCCA GT and LeMans races because they are a competition of skill and machine design.  Nevertheless, I don't mind watching a bit of a NASCAR race here and there.

NASCAR is totally different then typical road course racing, and I think people don't understand that and that's why it is bashed.  The thing is, it's not really about the machines or the racing.  It's more of a competition between individual players that gives fans an opportunity to follow their drivers progress and to cheer them on.  Also, if you ever go to a SCCA race then to a NASCAR race, you'll see the atmosphere is totally different.  The crowd at an SCCA race is like going to watch golf, you're surrounded by a bunch of snobs and it's really kinda boring.  But the crowd at a NASCAR race is a lot more like a baseball game, people really get into it, they yell and scream, and it's just a lot more fun.

Nascar was sure better way back in the day, like when they took a car that was stock, drank a lot of moonshine, and then made it into a racer, now there's nothing stock at all about Nascar today
Nascar = National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing
I think they should have to change there name, here's a suggestion.
Nascar = Non-Athletic Sport Centered Around Rednecks
Being naked was great, but now that I'm older I thought I should cover up!!!!

Mods?  What mods, no really its stock!!

NASCAR is a perfect example of superior marketing pushing an inferior product.  I really like the professional wrestling comparison that was mentioned a few posts up; it's the most stale, boring, pedestrian kind of racing ever invented but it's hugely popular because of hype.  Overexcited announcers calling the play-by-plays, women in skimpy outfits paraded around, trumped-up rivalries with hero and villain archetypes and billion-dollar advertising / marketing / merchandising campaigns.  NASCAR is headed up by brilliant businessmen but when you cut through the chaff there isn't very much substance.

OMFG shut the f%$k up you stupid f%$king chicken sucking bastards!

You sit there and continuously tear into just b/c it doesn't interest you. There are a few of us around here that do enjoy it and it gets really old with all you f%$kheads always stereotyping it. If you ever actually take the time to sit down and watch a race and see what all is involved you might actually find that it's a lot more than 43 guys just turning left.

No, seriously, tell us how you really feel.

i think it sucks.  driving in a circle is only mildly interesting for 2 minutes.  then i change the channel.  the few times i have actually attempted to watch a race, i fell asleep.  and i was trying HARD to stay awake.  i just don't get it.

i watch F1, MotoGP, ETCC, BTCC, Champ Car, LeMans, and drag racing.  road courses only, please...(with the exception of drags)

yamahonkawazuki

drags are road courses. straightaways only though  ;)

I'm the common man and Nascar has never appealed to me.  Unlike some of the more haughty Nascar critics, though, I do like the concept of oval track racing.  You sit in the bleachers and you see all the race action.  Like Supercross--the other race series which consistently draws a crowd.

With Nascar, I can imagine that the family sedan size and thunderous sound of the cars provides a viscerally thrilling spectacle when watching a live event.  If only the cars were more representative of what we see on the roads....

The problem with roadcourse racing is that the only good vantage point for watching the action is sitting in front of the TV.  :icon_rolleyes:
