Where did your handle come from

fodder650

(did a search and didn't find this thread. Although I'm sure someone else has made one before)

I hadn't even thought about the handle I chose on here until someone mentioned it in chat. There are a lot of people going by "Fodder" now. I have been using it since 2001 when I didn't know anyone else using it. So I drop 650 on the end.

The 650 is the engine size of my first motorcycle. A 1980 Honda CB650 Custom. A bike I haven't owned in the five years since owning my GS.  Just a coincidence really.

As for Fodder. Well i used to go back Chauffeur before 2001. But my first MMO World War II Online wouldn't allow 9 letter names. It would only allow 8. And Chauffer in French means "to warm". So i went with what I become in all new games. Cannonfodder. Now for a motorcycle forum it feels a little awkward since I'm still getting comfortable with my GS. And I really don't want to become road fodder. But I went on to run a 75 man squad in there and was known by a lot of people in there. So I had to stick with Fodder.

So where did all of your handles come from?

Egaeus

#1
The main character of Berenice, by E.A. Poe.

Edit: I've been using it since 1996 or so.  Yes, I've been sitting in front of a computer for that long.  I'm Egaeus on Yahoo, the first Egaeus on ICQ, and I swear I got the AIM Egaeus, but apparently not, since none of my passwords work.

Second Edit: Coincidentally, it's pronounce Eh GEE Us, which is very close to "A GS."  I think it was predestined.

Alphamazing

I've been using mine since 1999 or 1998. I forget entirely how it came around, but I'm pretty sure I had the X5 on there because I thought it looked cool, and because AlphaFire is some sort of fire fighting precint in Massachustets, I think. I wanted a name that I would be able to use everywhere without modification, and through some weird logic of mine, this one fit the bill.

Unnamed

In the original counterstrike, when your name was too long it defaulted to Unnamed. I kinda liked it, and held onto it. I also use Outsidesmoke since I'm a swimmer, and for dealing with real (not internet) people I use my first initial and last name.

Am I a total nerd for knowing that? Not that I knew where you got it from but that when I first saw your name,
I was like"hmmm... from Berenice"

~~~My baptismal name is Egaeus. That of my family I will not mention. Yet there are no towers in the land more time-honored than my gloomy, gray, hereditary halls.
3imo,  what a name.
My middle name is Emilio.  My friends in high school called me Eimo.  I had a closer group of friends, that I considered my boys.  5 went to Prison for murder/conspiracy.
4 of us didn't. we called ourselves the FAB 4.  I was #3.  Hence the name, 3imo.
I use it for everything. Halo especially. I have it tattoed on my wrist for good luck.
If you knew that, then congratulations on being the first person ever (that mentioned it).  It started in high school when I mentioned that I notice a girls teeth (as opposed to other features) first.  My friend steered me to Berenice.  I have to say that I don't have quite that much of a fixation....  :icon_mrgreen:
 The teeth! — the teeth! — they were here, and there, and everywhere, and visibly and palpably before me; long, narrow, and excessively white, with the pale lips writhing about them, as in the very moment of their first terrible development
ajgs500
AJ are my initials.  The Gs500 are well self explanatory.  And no Im not telling you what the initials stand for.
LPC2104
I'm usually LPcreation (for about 10 years) but something weird happened here and I couldn't use it so it turned into LPC2104.
LP = Les Paul, I've been playing a 1960 reissue Les Paul Classic since 1997
C = Creation = I was a creation of my guitar.  Ghey but it sounded really cool when I was 17.
2104 = my wife's and my lucky numbers put together
The Buddha
My handle ... yea I been using it since ~ jan 23 1969 ... it came about when my parents wrote it on a bed of unchaffed rice with a coin (My granpa did actually ... aka he could've written anything ... but he wrote 1 of my mom's choice, one of my dad's choice and one of his choice and srinath is my dad's option ... My Grandpa called me Sridhar ... and for the longest time, he was the "grandpa that called me sridhar" ... though I officially never used it.
Anyway they then plonked me 11 days old and butt naked on that bed of grain for 5 minutes while I evidently got it all on my hair etc.
And as a Huge coinkidink - Years later in 94 I get married on 23 Jan 1994.
Its typical of a south Indian brahmin naming ceremony. 11th day or 12th day after birth. So my birth certificate is nameless ...
Cool.
Jake D
Jake is short for Jacob, which is hebrew for "Heel Grabber".  It was the name I was given at birth by my mother.  My mother wanted something Biblical.  My father was impressed by a John Wayne movie where the main character was called Big Jake.  So they picked Jacob and started calling me Jake, Big Jake, or Mongo Looney, from Blazing Saddles.  The D is the first letter of my last name.
So I chose Jake D.  I'm called Jake D on all forums.
arcsecond
When I was in college I spent a Saturday afternoon doing the math long hand to figure out why a parsec is a parsec. And the unit of measurement of one arcsecond comes into play there. You know how sci-fi shows always use the parsec to tell distance in space, but when I looked it up a parsec was listed as 3.258 light-years with out any explanation as to why that number was chosen. I found an obscure reference that went something like "a parsec is the distance that subtends an AU at one second". Alas, I could find no definition of the word subtend anywhere. But it gave me a clue. I knew that a light year is the distance that light travels in one year. I knew that the speed of light was about 186'000 miles per second. I knew that one AU (astronomical unit) is the distance from Earth to the Sun, about 93 million miles. After making sure of the math that Saturday afternoon it turns out that one parsec (parallax second) is the radius of a circle such that the linear distance traveled on the circumference of the circle by the radial distance of one arcsecond is equal to one AU. So 1/60th of 1/60th of 1/360th of the circumference of this giant circle is one AU. Whatever the radius of that circle is becomes one parsec.
So I chose arcsecond, also it sounded cool.
