Odd lock question

So I need to have my locks rekeyed so the tank/seat match the tank.  I've read all the posts and like the idea of a 50-50 key, but am worried that since the key barely works on the seat, a copy might be worse.

SO - I had a thought.  Is there any way to put, say, a combination lock in place of the seat lock?  Not sure exactly what (if anything) would work, but I was picturing one of those inline locks for a bicycle.

Stupid, not plausible idea right?

A 50 50 will work. Make sure they will take the same blank as in ... the 2 keys you got are pointing to the same blank. Your keys - The ignition and tank had so much wear, I had to get a key cut with a different blank. A saturn #13 blank I think. that key doesn't even slide into the seat latch. Sorta indicative of the fact that you open the ignition about 2-4 times per tank opening, and open the tank prolly 10 times more than the seat.

Take it to an actual locksmith to have the copy made.

Wal Mart keys are facking crap.

Tell the locksmith your problem and he'll be able to make a copy that will work better.

So noone likes my idea of completely bypassing the need for a key by putting a combo lock on the seat?  Was also considering something more along the lines of a rfid badge but probably not on an area that might (ok will) get wet.  :cookoo:

OK Not that I dont like it ... heck I love it ... any generic crap that can be slapped on to a bike, I am all ears ... but you will then have to carry 3 keys. the tank, the ignition and the seat ... for now the seat and tank take the same thing. So cut a 1/2 and 1/2 and remember which 1/2 opens what. You're good.
BTW yours - the tank and ignition had so much wear, its needed the same key cut into a different blank - a sorta fatter key with narrower key way (groove) that key wont even slide in the seat latch. So Its got 2 of the same keys, made from different blanks.
