ok guys i have never put a K&N filter on any of my motorcycles. i usually go with cheaper ones. but, i was wondering about the open filter set up, with out the lunch box, i was looking at the  RU-2970 if not i was thinking about taking two single filters and sticking them out of each side of the motorcycle at an angle, but i like idea one, is it worth it?

EDIT: and would it require a rejet. im new to performance mods guys work with me :P

if you go for anything that is better flowing you will require a jejet, you can get the k&n drop in filter which comes with a restricter, you won't need to rejet if you get that.
have a look at the rejetting matrix if you go for pods or a lunchbox type filter  :thumb:ngood luck
pod filters, costum r6 quill exhaust(no baffles)40/140 jets, heavy duty springs, sv650 rear shock, gsxr srad tail, bandit 600 4.5 inch rim with 150 tyre, gsx twin disc front end "1995 pocket rocket"  ridden by a kiwi in scotland

No.  It's not not worth the associated headaches, not worth the money, not worth the miniscule boost in power (mostly placebo effect) when jetted properly.  These things run best with the airbox and with some minor carb tweaks.  But, then, that's just my opinion/experience and I often say that people are gonna hear what they wanna hear on these type of threads.   :icon_rolleyes:

i just put the drop in on my bike, K&N, and i still need a rejet, and i DID put the restrictor on the filter, im getting my carbs cleaned and the rejet and my bike tuned, for only 150, my buddy is a service manager and races 1000cc cbr, he really knows his stuff!!

its very easy to put on, takes an hour or 2, you have to remove the tank, and its right there, the only pain is draining the tank, then everything else is a breeze, its best to do it with your bike on almost empty, ride your bike, hit the reserve, and run it til shes almost dry, then keep going around the block until you run out, it will make the draining headache ALOT smaller...  there are 2 bolts right underneathe the seat you remove and the fuel tank hasa hinge at th top, you remove the hose line from the petcock and have something to catch the gas in.

You know you don't have to run it out of gas to take off the fuel lines right?  There's a second petcock attached to the bottom of the tank that you can turn off with a screw driver thus allowing you to remove the fuel hoses even with a full tank.

As for being worth it, I think so.  In the big picture the filter is dirt cheap, it's only $30 and it will last you the life of your current GS and your next 10 GS's.  In addition there are some gains, it's not like throwing a turbo on there or anything, but it's definately an improvment.  Not to mention it makes the bike sound a little more manly  :thumb:

Yes, you need to rejet, but in the opinion of a lot of people here, you need to rejet even with the bike being totally stock because it is just way too lean from the factory.  But trust me, rejetting is easy.

the second (or first) one is UNDER the gas tank.  you need to unscrew the gas tank to get to it.  it has a knob that can be turned off.  Will stop fuel flow out of the tank.

keep in mind you'll still have gas in the hoses that lead to the petcock on the side of the bike.

You can't miss it if you know it's there, it's the thing the fuel hoses connect to on the bottom of the tank.  Look at it from the right side of the bike and you'll see a slotted screw-like valve right above the hose barbs.
