Airbox sludge...

I think I've got either oil or gas going into my airbox. Last time I took it off, it had a fair amount of sludge in it, and my airbox drain tube is always looking nasty... But it runs wonderfully, other than the idle does it's own thing. It'll stay around 1.2 to 1.7k when warm, I just can't lower it any further which has me confused...

dgyver

It is suppossed to idle at 1200
Common sense in not very common.

Keep it up ... closer to 1500 ... the damn thing makes dismal oil pressure ... it will scare ya ... lower the revs, lower the pressure.
Cool.

there is a hose that runs from your engine to the air box, when you are revving the bike sometimes oil gets through, the best thing to do is rip off that hose and put on a small air filter

or get an inline filter like this

that will stop the sludge coming through butwill still let it breath :thumb:

Or simply get part number 7 in the cylinder head cover parts fiche.  It's the "Oil Breather Separator."  It's a simple metal screen made to go into that spot.

A little sludge is no problem. It's from the crankcase breather tube, and is more likely to happen if you accidentally overfill the oil. Another possibility is that it could be air filter oil if you are running a K&N or UNI filter and over oiled it.

Alright, cool. I was concerned I might be looking at some big problems down the road. I love this bike, and plan on holding onto it for a while before I upgrade.
