Belt drives, anyone?

Has anyone done any modifications to change the chain-drive to belt?

I've a project bike that I'll start working on, as soon as I get my house & garage built - probably around the end of the year; It's a '82 400cc Yamaha Seca twin, (been sitting in my grandpa's garage over a decade now) and I'm looking to make it my "building bike", in contrast to the GS, which I think I'll keep pretty stock.

My dad was thinking about converting it from chain to belt - since it's an old bike, I doubt that there will be sprocket & chain packs lying around all that long, so that might actually be a good idea... plus the Hack Value.

Ideas, comments, anyone?

Anyway I did a bunch of research for a GS belt ...
Something like this ... front pulley for a Vulcan or marauder 800. There is a company called scootworks that makes them. Problem is you need a 36 tooth or less 8mm, or like a 17 tooth 14mm, and a 17 tooth is impossible to come by ... you're not supposer to drop below 24 I think in a 14mm gates poly chain. So 36 tooth, 21mm wide, 8mm front pulley, and get rear of your choice and measure up the belt and slap it all on.
Biggest problem IMHO - front sproket is held on by a clip on the GS ... pulley being wider could snap that clean off ... So drill and tap the center, use a large ass bolt and a washer to hold on the thing. I have also toyed with machining out the center of a sprocket and bolting on the pulley instead of buying one ... but same problem it also will have.
Maybe I should first do it to a shadow 600 my friend got. They have a direct bolt in kit.
